July 26, 200620 yr After reading K's comments (he has been glowing) I'd be shocked if Paul isn't starting. The best true point guard on the team. Ya I'm looking forward to it. I never saw much of New Ahlins during the season. You have to figure 4 of the 5 will be Howard, Wade, Lebron and Paul. Why? No one should be suprised if Krzyzewski prefers Brand over Howard. I wouldn't be surprised. But I think a guy like Howard fits more into the 'team' format. The points will be thin enough if Amare, Wade and Lebron play.
July 26, 200620 yr The games will be on TV. I think TNT carried them last time. Congrats to Bruce. Hopefully he helps lead the US team to whatever the top honor is. Well yeah but it was in Indianapolis...central time works a lot better than Japan time. so? they will still be on tv. why wouldnt they?

Why does he fit in better, because he averaged less points than Brand during the season? Krzyzewski knows Brand (and Battier) better than anyone on the court (that will hold weight in his mind) and that coupled with his play last season and the way he fits in better beside Amare is why he would more likely start.

Welcome to the boards, Coach K. I didn't say Brand wouldn't start. I just said what I think would be best. No harm, no foul.
July 26, 200620 yr A lot of people haven't really noticed, but Elton Brand is one of the most dominant players in the NBA right now. That's what playing for crappy teams will do to your image, but the man is unstoppable. He can make 15-20 footers at high percentage and has such great footwork on the inside moves as well. In addition, he blocks and plays defense as good as any big man except maybe Ben Wallace and Zo. Brand will be starting. And he ought to be. Paul-Wade-James-Brand-Howard.... bench: Anthony-Bosh-Bowen, etc... and on a different note, I am really upset Ron Artest is not on this team.

It won't be a problem having Bowen on the court because there are four other prime time scorers, but Artest is the whole package. And what you said about Artest is exactly right. One just needs to see what he did in his two series in the playoffs to know how good of a player he is. Teams just couldn't guard him.
July 26, 200620 yr Artest isn't someone I want representing my country. His play on the court shouldn't automatically earn him a spot on the team.
July 26, 200620 yr Yeah, Artest definitely doesn't belong there. That would go against everything they're trying to do with the current version of the team.

Well yeah but it was in Indianapolis...central time works a lot better than Japan time. so? they will still be on tv. why wouldnt they? Because broadcasting these games is expensive and to be shown live they'd have to be at an odd hour. Would a station really put these games on if they were on in the East Coast at like 5am or 9am? Maybe tape delay a few of them, but who would watch these games before 10am in America? The networks wouldn't waste their time and money with start times like that.
July 26, 200620 yr Well...the first US game is being played at noon over in Japan, which would make it a 10 PM game here. That ish should be televised. The other 4 are all at 7:30 in Japon, so 5:30 AM here. Kind of early. I don't know if I'd get up that early to watch the opening round games, but when they get to the elim rounds, I'd want to watch whenever they were on.
July 26, 200620 yr yeah - instead of tape delaying basketball they will go for feeds on things like darts, bowling and dominoes i'd be suprised if these things weren't shown on a tape delay - won't cost that much more to film it or to buy the rights from some affiliate and then rebroadcast

August 3, 200620 yr LAS VEGAS ? (AP) ? Amare Stoudemire was dropped Thursday from the U.S. roster for their trip to Asia, leaving 14 players available for the 12 spots on the world championship team. USA Basketball announced Stoudemire's departure hours before it played Puerto Rico in an exhibition game. The Phoenix Suns forward was to miss that game and return home to continue rehabbing his right knee and await the impending birth of a child. "During the past few days of our training camp we concluded that it would be difficult for Amare to continue with the rehabilitation he needs to do while the team continues its training in Asia,'' USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said in a statement. "He is not quite where he needs to be and he needs to continue his work here in the States to get ready for the season. He is also expecting the birth of a child, so we decided it would be best if he returned home.'' Stoudemire entered camp as somewhat of a long shot to make the final 12. He was limited to only three games last season after a pair of knee surgeries, and was still well off his top form after an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee in April. But a strong finish to the first segment of camp paved the way for him to make the second week after Suns teammate Shawn Marion developed a knee injury during the earlier session. Stoudemire remained on the national team roster and is eligible to play in the 2008 Olympics. The remaining 14 players are scheduled to depart for China on Friday to continue training. The roster must be reduced to 12 before the world championships begin in Japan on Aug. 19.
August 3, 200620 yr I heard he was doing well. Hopefully he kicks ass for the Suns this year. Just means more Dwight.
August 4, 200620 yr I think it's safe to say that Howard is the best rebounder on the team. That could be the key to him starting over other players. I dont think Im missing anyone but the power players left seem to be: Howard Brand Miller Bosh (Jamison I've always considered more of a SF because he isnt much of a power player. Howard and Miller are probably the better compliments to the more offensively advances Brand and Bosh.
August 4, 200620 yr Alright guys lets have a good showing tonight! Revenge for the olympics (not really). D'Wade and Lebron in the same backcourt. My god.
