guys we are 3-9 in since winning game one of the red sox series and we were 35-41 and looking good. but sincee then our offnese hasnt been great when we need it to be and kensing and messenger have seen their eras go from 3.20 to 4.44 and 2.67 to 3.48 respectivly and we are just playing like april and may. do u guys think that this could keep maanagment thinking on whether they should try to make a run at the wild card in which we are 7.5 games out now.

Wild Card?

There is always a next year, and that's what I'm hoping the FO is thinking.

Don't mortgage the future for a pipe dream.

besides, what's the point? Loria is getting the cash this year and is not like making a run is going to put no more than 5K fans a night

this team have few year to think about wild card their did not come to play today team going start to play harder in second half of season so marlins will need to show up or get blow out of park if their donot play so let see how their do during this home stand

I really hope Matt Herges keeps this up. His era is now down to 3.86 and he could get us a real solid prospect.... considering how bad he was in April, it shocks me to see his era is so low, then again, when faced with problems like having a sick baby, I guess that was a major reason he faltered.

I'd shop Herges, Borowski, Helms and even Messenger and Willingham if it could somehow help us get a goddamn center-fielder.

r u nuts i would never shop willingham who is going to give us like 20 homers and 75 to 80 rbis in his first year and messneger has been great besides tonight

This is a hypothetical.

If you traded Willingham and got Vernon Wells back, would you I would never?

(Not realistic at all but you get the point)

dude i just want to win and i feel like we can do that but bad sh*t always seems to come our way and we still have great shot at the wild card but if this keeps up then were done. btw isnt it funny how the two errors early in the game dont hurt us but the one that was sort of routine on the great throw by hanley is the one that kills us

7.5 games back is hard enough as is, but passing 9 teams is gonna be close to impossible

Well and because a trade like that is not realistic then it shouldn't be done. We know that Hammer is going to give us some kind of production. I don't think that we can get a proven CF for him, at best a prospect, but albeit not a great one.

This is a very small sample size, and we played some really great teams during this run. If we can't creep back to within 3 or 4 games of .500 by the trade deadline, then we definitely need to trade one of the vets.

That's going to be nearly impossible in only 2 weeks time.

The only way you can say we're moderately in the WC picture is if you believe (as I think a compelling case could be made) that a team could win the NL Wild-Card at only 5 or so games over .500.

Really, I think 88 wins guarantees you the card this year, and anything north of 80 and you'll probably be in the picture until the last week of the season.

With a little luck and a centerfielder and/or protection for Miggy, this team could probably finish at around .500, and to me, this year, that's good enough to think Wild Card.

However, I think deviating from the plan would be a cataclysmicly bad idea as the system really gets bare once Sanchez and Petit are here for good. I don't think we can afford to dig deep into it to get the so-so kind of guy that's going to come available.

I dont have much of an opinion on our chances on the Wild Card but I am impressed that Swift somehow got the word "cataclysmicly" in a baseball thread.

I tip my cap.

We should sell Herges right now while his ERA cover him up. This guy is a disaster when you count on him on close late inning games. He seem to only be dominating when the game doesn't count.

as long we trade him to a GM who misses all those IR scored. :mischief

we could just send herges to cinci.. might be able to get Griffey out of it.
