Josh Johnson

I think we will all agree that the guy has been phenomenal, and he's been no surprise either. He is good, and now he is showing it. However, his last few outings have shown that he needs to work on his control. In his last 5 starts he has allowed more than 4 walks in 4 of them; and even though he is 3-1 in that stretch, the high pitch counts do prevent him from going deeper into games. As a rookie it's obviously something that will affect any player, but I can't imagine how good we will be once he starts having more control of his pitches.

i agree, he has been phenominal so far and once he gets his control he should be even better...future is exciting for him as it is for many of our marlins...LETS GO FISH...take it to the buccos

JJ will come around, i don't remember him having that many walks earlier in the year..but as long as he keeps ER total down, i'll be happy

And they were expecting him to be a 3rd starter... Worthless scouting report.

Mostly statheads who had never seen him pitch. According to reports I read during the offseason, a number of Marlins scouts ranked him as our top pitching prospect (others saying Scott Olsen was the top prospect, still others Anibal).

I think Johnson is more like a Brad Penny than a legit ace...

and there is certainly nothing wrong with Brad Penny

That's the comparison I've used forever, too.

Because he is tall and weighs 250+ lbs? I think he can be better than Penny, even though i didn't see him when he started, but he never had numbers remotely similar to those JJ is putting up. Time will tell i guess.

Josh Johnson doesn't throw as hard as Penny and doesn't really have a curveball. I think Josh Johnson compares better to a John Lackey with a better slider but doesn't have the same curve that Lackey has.

If JJ is able to hone his changeup and slider (maybe even add a quality curveball to his repetoire) and learn to spot his fastball with good consistency, he will be pretty formidable. Big leaguers are having a pretty hard time hitting his stuff as it is. He is still 22-years-old and the potential for further improvement is there.

Lets all keep this in mind!!!!

I think Johnson pitches smarter than Penny already and I think he's already better than Penny has ever been.

Penny always seemed like much more of a thrower than a pitcher.

Tell that to the 2003 Yankees.
