July 29, 200620 yr World Trade Center Film Benefits 9/11 Groups Four September 11 charities will receive 10 percent of the box-office receipts from the first five days of release of Oliver Stone's World Trade Center film, it was announced on Wednesday. Half of the donation will go toward the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, which is financing two reflecting pools at the base of the someday-to-be-built Freedom Tower, while the rest will be split equally among three other groups. 10% for the first 5 days, what a cop out. How much are you donating?
August 3, 200620 yr early reviews are looking pretty good on rotten tomatoes. The 1 bad review wasn't even all that bad. I will be seeing this movie and quite possibly shedding a tear.
August 3, 200620 yr Something tells me that reviewers will be reluctant to pan it due to the subject matter. I haven't seen the Flight 93 movie but I highly doubt that it deserved the 4 star rating that Ebert gave it. Are you talking about United 93? If so, it WAS that good (IMO). Just a very good, respectful, well-crafted film. Not extraordinary, but it's very well done.
August 4, 200620 yr I'm a complete hypocrite when it comes to United 93 when I said I wouldn't support it by seeing it. I did after a friend told me more about it and I read how that nearly all the families of the victims backed up the project and that a portion of the gross was going to go to the victims. Is it too soon? Probably and I think it just depends on the person and it took alot for me to see it but I trusted my good friend's opinion and saw it. Anyways, its probably one of the most well done films of all time and it never over dramatizes anything and I don't believe it tried to portray people in a certain way or have any political message or anything. It deserved the credit it got.
August 4, 200620 yr It's one of the most critically aclaimed films ever. Is it one of the best movies ever? Maybe not. But one of the most well done? Without a doubt.
August 4, 200620 yr Well what does that have to do with it getting good reviews. Travers gave it a perfect rating. Ebert gave it a perfect rating. It has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as on Metacritic.
August 4, 200620 yr The United 93 movie looked decent from the trailers but I will not see a 9/11 based movie in the theatres this soon.

Although I know you, and you have a passion for movies and critiquing, so it makes sense that you feel that way. I think you are less formulaic than most as well.

Not because I don't think I can handle it or anything, the movie just looks too melodramatic and sappy for my tastes. 72 at RT is actually well above average. Movies like Pirates, Superman, etc got in the 50s and 60s.

But ya, 72 is pretty good at RT compared to most of the movies that come out. You notice that the smaller films generally get a better rating...but that's probably obvious.
