August 5, 200619 yr You'd have to say Vernon Wells. By the end of 2007, Jones' value will be in decline while Wells will be ascending.
August 5, 200619 yr So, its almost 1pm. Do you think we will hear any news soon? I am just curious to find out where he went or if he is going anywhere. no where... he is in the lineup for the braves for their 1:30 game. So he is not going to be traded? i doubt it.. he wouldnt be playing for the braves at 1:30 if the deadline to deal him was 1pm

August 5, 200619 yr Its not going to happen...but if someone has the spects to do it would be us. Probably the Red Sox though. Actually, our farm system is not that strong since most of our "prospects" are in the majors. OH OK The Marlins still have a fairly deep farm system as regards to pitching.
August 5, 200619 yr No news at the 1pm deadline and his name in the lineup for a 1:30pm start may mean: a) there never was a team who claimed him b) the Braves pulled him back (removed his name from the waiver list) c) with MLB approval the two teams are finalizing the terms of their contractural arrangement d) the deal is done but is awaiting approval from the commissioner's office e) the Braves and Jones have agreed to deal a inwhich he stays on the team, but agrees not to use his 10/5 no trade rights in 2007, thus giving the Braves the flexibility they may need
August 5, 200619 yr Andruw Jones and Vernon Wells are both free agents after the 2007 seasons. Who would you rather have Andruw or Vernon? I would like to have Vernon Wells because he is more of a five tool player then Andruw because he can hit for power, he can hit for contact, he's a great fielder, and he can steal bases. Andruw has that but his BA isn't as good as Wells. I'd rather have Vernon Wells.
August 5, 200619 yr Why would the Braves trade Andruw Jones? when there only five games back in the wildcard and with Chipper out they are going to need him if they have any chance of making the playoffs.
August 5, 200619 yr The 1pm deadline is for the Braves to revoke him off waivers or not. If they don't, then the two teams have 48 hours to negotiate a deal.

If they don't, then the two teams have 48 hours to negotiate a deal. So they would be forced to make a deal?
August 5, 200619 yr Why would the Braves trade Andruw Jones? when there only five games back in the wildcard and with Chipper out they are going to need him if they have any chance of making the playoffs. There's a number of reasons, but rather than explain them in detail because they are noted in the thread, there's his 10/5 no-trade rights which are vested Aug 15th, the Braves are in the process of being sold to a company known for cost-cutting, his offensive decline and back injuries, etc. Not saing it has happened or will happen but if it doesn't happen right now it can't happen this year and his rights make him virtually untradeable.
August 5, 200619 yr And I really cant believe it would be the Cubs who picked him up but well who wouldnt want a Gold Glove CFer who is going to hit 30+ Homeruns? So who knows. Someone by now has to know who claimed him.
August 5, 200619 yr As I alluded to above, unless all that is required is paperwork or Commissioner's approval, his waiver simply expired at 1pm today. There may never be an announcement, the process is supposed to be secret. The only reason anyone knew was because Olney decided to break the story.
