August 4, 200619 yr Andruw Jones (Marlins) talk on 760 right now. Joe from Pompano, you're on the line. Hey, can you (echo) he- Hello? - (echo) Am I on? (echo) I think the Marlins should pick up Andruw Jones from the damn Atlanta Braves. He'd look really good in center next to Miguel Cabrera and Juan Pierre.

August 4, 200619 yr Supposedly Buster Olney was on the Dan Patrick show and said it was the Angels who claimed him.
August 4, 200619 yr Supposedly Buster Olney was on the Dan Patrick show and said it was the Angels who claimed him. That would be amazing that he went that far through waivers with the competition for the wildcard in the NL. If it's true, my hat's off to them for getting him out of the National League.
August 4, 200619 yr Crazy. I did not know that rule. Why not just set your phone to automatically answer 'no' or turn it off. it was more about sending a subtle message more than anything.
August 4, 200619 yr Supposedly Buster Olney was on the Dan Patrick show and said it was the Angels who claimed him. The Angels have been rumored but MOST reports say it was indeed a NL team who claimed him
August 4, 200619 yr Supposedly Buster Olney was on the Dan Patrick show and said it was the Angels who claimed him. Soooooo all of the contenders for the NL wild card passed over him then? Or maybe they won some kind of tiebreaker with the NL wild card leaders, AZ and CIN (55-53) if they claimed him?
August 4, 200619 yr Andruw a Marlin  . Sounds too good to be true. Yeah, it really does. But Cabs/Jones/Jacobs would be absoloutly deadly. The Red Sox made a bid for him before the deadline so he could possibly be in Boston in the not so distant future.
August 4, 200619 yr It's possible more than one team claimed him. Like I said before, the only people in position to know who claimed him are the Braves (then given 24 hours to take him off waivers), the claiming team and the MLB office.

The Red Sox made a bid for him before the deadline so he could possibly be in Boston in the not so distant future. Twenty-seven (27) other teams would have to pass on him to see Andruw Jones playing in Boston. Not a chance. Yea ESPN reported that multiple teams put a claim It's NOT about how many placed claims. It's about the ONE team whose claim was approved. If Olney's story is true, only two choices remain for the Braves, move him or keep him and his 10/5 rights with Scott Boras as his agent. Good luck trading him to anyone else.
August 4, 200619 yr Yea ESPN reported that multiple teams put a claim They also reported that MLB did award one team already. And I assume it have to be the one with the highest waiver ranking.
August 4, 200619 yr Oh I understand what Im saying is that might be what Olney was saying that the Angels put a claim but he is not sure who got him

August 4, 200619 yr Yea ESPN reported that multiple teams put a claim They also reported that MLB did award one team already. And I assume it have to be the one with the highest waiver ranking. MLB's in no position to do that yet. They can acknowledge a claim. But they can't award a team his rights to negotiate with the Braves quite yet. Unless it was the Pirates who claimed him. Also to correct a common misunderstanding: waivers don't operate like a draft. Teams can place claims at any time. You don't have to wait for all the teams below you in the standings to make their decision.

You don't have to wait for all the teams below you in the standings to make their decision. You forget there's a time limit, 72 hours from when the player was placed on waivers. I would assume the 72 hours have now run out and that's why the claim was approved.

And even if they did, I'm sure another team lower than them in the standings would have already claimed him. I was just throwing it out there.
August 4, 200619 yr I think, for a number of reasons, it makes good business sense. Longshot to be sure, but clearly there is a scenario where it works based on how waivers work, Jeffrey Loria's penchant for winning and pulling off the "big" deal, the ultra low payroll, various other factors. Off to the game.
