You guys think he is coming to the Marlins?

I know, right? Seriously, this thread belongs in the MLB section. No, it doesn't. Its pure speculation on the part of us fans of what he'd be like if we acquired him. Lay off.

:lol

we should get to speculate of adding a player for once. Normally it is us trading away ne of ours like willis and cabera. It is nie for a change :)

The Marlins' chances of signing Jones are slim to none.

Just like the Marlins stadium is also slim to none.

Tommorow's the last day for Atlanta to make a deal with the team that claimed Andruw off waivers, correct?

What are the chances are that Andruw might come to Florida? We really need a CF'er. Bad. Mezzy is doing good but he shouldnt be there.

i'm really confused. Andruw Jones, possibly going to another team, this just sounds too weird.

I know. I am suprised that the Braves even thought about getting rid of him. I thought they would have him his whole career but I guess not. Anyone know why they are thinking of "getting rid" of him?

There is about as much of a chance of A Jones playing CF for us this year as there is that the Royals make a run to win their division.

How were your seats tonite Don?

I had nice seats.

Founders Field (sec 43) Row B seat 2.

One of the worst Marlins games Ive seen in person (from a Fish fan perspective).

If not for the props me and my buddies had going it would have been a disaster.

:mischief

The Braves getting rid of Jones is blasphemy. To me, this is just as bad as Jeter not being a Yankee. I really hope Andruw stays a Brave the rest of his career.

I think of Chipper as more of the eternal Brave actually.

Excruciating is the only word for it.

Sanchez was up, Amezega's misplay, all those runs scored on two outs (that more than anything was the most frustrating thing for me), consistently missing the cut-off man (did Tommy remark during the game about that sloppy play), Ramirez asleep at the wheel again offensively and defensively, and watching Marlin after Marlin not being able to make contact with 71-73 mph changeups made me want to tear what hair I have out.

Thank god we have tonight's game to make it all better :thumbup

On the Jones things, I wonder how much of the backstory will come out after the 1pm deadline? Jones is reportedly one really unhappy puppy with how (he perceives) he was treated in this.

Can someone explain this please?

What makes Jones' situation interesting is that on Aug. 15, he will gain 10-and-5 rights -- 10 years in the big leagues, five with the same team -- to block any proposed trade.

I read on Braves.com that Andruw was claimed by the Cubs. I don't believe it. Mostly because JP is in center and I doubt they would give JP up. Isnt JP having a good 2nd half?

Can someone explain this please?

When a player reaches 10 years in the MLs and five years with the same team, he is afforded certain rights, among them the right to veto any trade.

Were the Braves to move him (as a cost-cutting move in front of their expected sale, or for any other reason) before August 15th, since hadn't reached that 10/5 benchmark, those right are never gifted to him and the five year "clock" begins again (he's have to do another five years with a new team to be back where he would be on August 15th).

Jones' agent is Scott Boras, roundly thought of as the toughest agent in the business. Were Jones to have his 10/5 rights and the Braves wanted to trade him subsequent to August 15th, there is no doubt Boras/Jones would use his veto rights as a bargaining chip to either get more money or a guaranteed multi-year contract extension or both from the acquiring team.

So if the Braves know they are going to be cutting payroll, he is a prime candidate, being owed $13.50 million next season.

Got it?

Edit: Sorry for another post. I didnt know someone responded after me.

Andruw to the Cubs (Like I said before. I dont believe it) From what I read, there is no source.

Got it.. Thanks.

Most of the people in that thread have no idea how this waiver trading works. And they are overpricing Jones tremendously in this type of transaction.

A) I doubt it's the Cubs although it could be.

B) The player(s) offered for a player being traded (in this case Jones) can't be on the active roster of the team acquiring the player in question for a number of reasons (the rules) including that the player(s) being offered as compensation would have to pass through waivers too.

yep, they are all saying to trade zambrano.. but that wouldnt work because he would have to go through waivers, and for sure every team would claim him.

By the way, Andruw is in the lineup according to the gamecast at mlb.com

So, its almost 1pm. Do you think we will hear any news soon? I am just curious to find out where he went or if he is going anywhere.

Andruw Jones and Vernon Wells are both free agents after the 2007 seasons. Who would you rather have Andruw or Vernon? I would like to have Vernon Wells because he is more of a five tool player then Andruw because he can hit for power, he can hit for contact, he's a great fielder, and he can steal bases. Andruw has that but his BA isn't as good as Wells.

no where... he is in the lineup for the braves for their 1:30 game.

So he is not going to be traded?
