If this is true, I'm suprised we couldn't acquire him. We definitely have the pitching prospects to get him.

I wouldn't offer anything more than an Adam Bostick type or maybe Jason Vargas for him though.
August 6, 200619 yr I am suprised to that we didnt go after a CF'er. I know we still have next year but I would like the team to "mold" together before next season. *Cant wait for ST. I will be at Roger Dean all the time*
August 6, 200619 yr Author absolutely im going to roger dean at least 4 or 5 times i only went once and it rained hopefully after we make the playoffs

I don't think Taveras is much is a player and I wouldn't give up on Vargas after one disappointing season. He pitched well last season and in the future may once again find his command and pitch well. I imagine right now his trade value is pretty low.
August 7, 200619 yr Around the trade deadline, The Denver Post I believe it was reported that the Rockies had turned down a Wily Taveras for Ray King offer from the 'Stros. They werent looking for much at all it seems.

To me Vargas is really never going to be a starter for the Marlins. The Fish have so many starters in the minors who probably have a better chance than Vargas.

August 7, 200619 yr I'd rather do the right thing than rather try to simply plug center "just because." Taveras is not the leap we need to take in centerfield.
August 7, 200619 yr I don't like the Marlins going after a little fish like taveras, because he doesn't draw crowds. We are the type of team that should go for a Big Fish like Soriano. After we get the stadium Loria said that he would raise the payroll again, so I bet next year is the year something big is going to happen.

You do also realize that we are less than a year removed from a salary purge right? Right now, the Marlins are NOT the kind of team that goes after a big player (been tried with Pudge and Delgado and neither of them lasted very long here). Once the stadium is built, then yeah we can be that kind of team, but not any time before then.

August 7, 200619 yr Soriano doesn't fit with this team...Taveras does...I would rather have Hunter Pence and Josh Anderson myself from the Stros

August 7, 200619 yr Agreed, Taveras is a quick guy, but he K's too much. I really don't understand why the Marlins didn't get a CF though. I have as high of hopes for Reggie Abercrombie as anyone, but the kid still needs some work. Amezega is a solid option, but I could have seen us getting a guy like Dave Roberts or Mike Cameron. I think a seasoned veteran with speed and a bat could get paid to play for the rest of the season. I understand and appreciate the stadium issue however. I flew out to Miami from California to watch 7 games in May, three of them day games. NEVER AGAIN! Put a roof on that thing and i'll come back, otherwise i'll stick to catching the fish on the road.
