September 2, 200619 yr Berkman belongs on any list of MVP candidates. I don't know why he gets overlooked. .308 36 HR 111 RBI.....not bad numbers at all. he should be considered
September 3, 200619 yr If you assume two things: 1. Ryan Howard is not on performance-enhancing drugs. 2. McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds were all on performance-enhancing drugs back in the day. ...then Howard is having a season for the ages. If not for the steroid shenanigans of recent years, every baseball fan everywhere would be discussing Howard's chase of Maris' record. So, it's a big shame for him, for the MLB, and for the rest of us, that we will never talk about Howard's season in that way. But it's not fair to him. So, let's recognize that fact and give him the MVP...because he deserves it. A more stat-headed arguement says he's second in the NL in OPS to Pujols, but Pujols has missed 16 more games. Howard is thumping the rest of the league in HRs, and, more importantly, RBIs My vote would go to Howard with no second thoughts about it.
September 3, 200619 yr Pujols still says hi.. 3/3, 3 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI.. Cards lead 5-0 against Pittsburgh

He's got 25 home runs away, and had 24 at home coming into the day. That's at 27 now, but despite that, he just has plain power, and he's able to hit without the excuse of Citizens Bank Park being a bandbox, considering that his power is even either way. You could also argue that Howard has nowhere near the type of protection in the lineup that Pujols or Beltran have. Guys like David Dellucci and Pat Burrell don't spell trouble like Carlos Delgado or Scott Rolen.
September 4, 200619 yr Its still hard to sugar coat the face that he hit 3 HR's today in a ballpark the size of my little league stadium. Not necessarily saying he's not worthy. Just stating facts

Just stating facts He has great numbers at home and away. Citizens is a hitter's park but it's not to a degree that it completely distorts the numbers the way Coors Field used to.

Just stating facts 2 of the homers went to the deepest parts of the park. There was a centerfield shot that landed on the furhter away, upper level of the bilevel bullepn, which is a hit over 415'. Another 1 of to the right center gap, over 375', and there was an oppositve field homer, which still got 10 or so rows deep into the stands.
September 4, 200619 yr Ryan Howard homers are homers in any park. Don't be stupid. "Dont be stupid"? take a chill pill kid
September 4, 200619 yr Prior to yesterday, Ryan Howard's homers, slugging %, BA, and OPS were all higher when he was not hitting in Citizen's Bank Park. He needed that monster performance yesterday to pull his home/away splits to about even. Pointing out that he plays in CBP is a poor way to minimize his MVP-caliber stats.
September 4, 200619 yr Ryan Howard homers are homers in any park. Don't be stupid. Back when he used to hit exclusivly opposite field most of the balls would only land in the first or second row of seats. Check the highlights. Most of those hits are in the gap though. He hit a few of them right down the line, but most of them are gap shots. He might be coming onto 60 by now if the fence hadn't been moved back 8 feet.
September 4, 200619 yr Howard Cabs Beltran 1, 2, 3 in NL MVP, IMO. Can't argue with that at all. Howard right now has it won. But with the way that the expectations were with the Marlins and how Miguel has really carried the team, there is a case. Ehh lets make all three MVPs. :mischief
