September 18, 200620 yr I would say that the parenting in this country overall is to blame. Parents these days are too distant from their kids, mostly because people in this country are horribly overworked. We are the most workaholic country on the face of the Earth, and things are getting worse lately for employees of just about any company. Thirty years ago retirement packages, medical benefits, etc. were the standard. Today, you're lucky if your company doesn't eliminate their health benefits to you, or your retirement funds. Enron and WorldCom were likely the beginning of this, but it's becoming all too common five years later. Companies are more obsessed with profit than the well-being of the people that they employ. I watched a disturbing documentary on WalMart, called The High Cost of Low Prices. It showed that most WalMart employees are paid under the poverty line (around $13,000 a year on average). The company's store managers actually encourage their employees to seek government assistance because WalMart will not pay them a living wage. The company also purposely understaffs stores to keep their costs down. The worst part would have to be the huge subsidies that the company receives from small towns and communities, which those towns will never see again.
September 18, 200620 yr its too late now to get rid of guns, but guns are intrinsically evil...their sole purpose is to kill life....same goes for bombs... i mean wtf is a bomb good for other than blowing the sh*t out of stuff

Japan anyone? its too late now to get rid of guns, but guns are intrinsically evil...their sole purpose is to kill life....same goes for bombs... i mean wtf is a bomb good for other than blowing the sh*t out of stuff I wouldn't say they're evil in and of themselves. I mean, if it's used to kill animals, which sustains human life, how is that evil? And bombs aren't either, if the THREAT of a bomb, makes people safer, without actually uses it I don't think you could say it's intrinsically evil. The threat of offense can be a good defense, too.

For christs sakes its the people who are using them who are evil. I am by no means a supporter of the NRA either. But guns for years meant life or death for people. Whether they would eat, live safely, or starve, and get attacked brutally.

It's different in Japan though, because the kids there have the same work ethic and it's instilled in them from an early age. Public high school in Japan makes most American universities look like a joke. its too late now to get rid of guns, but guns are intrinsically evil...their sole purpose is to kill life....same goes for bombs... i mean wtf is a bomb good for other than blowing the sh*t out of stuff I wouldn't say they're evil in and of themselves. I never thought i'd see the day. You've finally come around and have seen the light Buckeye. Peace through superior firepower. Firearms and weapons are the reason we are free. If our founding fathers were a bunch of tree hugging p***y's who thought guns were evil, there would be no America. The only reason we were not invaded by any number of nations during any time period in our history from the first minute of our existence to the present is because there are men - WITH GUNS - standing by. Guns are not evil, they do not have minds of their own. This all boils down to a lack of responsibility. Some would rather blame the tool, than the operator.
September 19, 200620 yr If guns didn't exist, we'd just find a different way of killing each other. However, if there were no armies - countries couldn't fight.
September 19, 200620 yr ok i know that guns protect people... and that it is the operator that pulls the trigger but if there were no guns and hence no triggers to pull then there would be no need for protection from anyone. same goes for bombs. "peace through superior firearms" -Accord thats an oxymoron if i ve ever seen one...until people see that violence rarely solves anything we will always have death and suffering....we are all people no matter what relig, sex, race.......
September 19, 200620 yr ok i know that guns protect people... and that it is the operator that pulls the trigger but if there were no guns and hence no triggers to pull then there would be no need for protection from anyone. same goes for bombs. We've had many, many, many wars without guns. We'll always have another weapon to use, always. And yes, superior firearms leads to peace. Strength unfortunately is what leads humanity to not kill itself, because it fears the consequences. Ever heard of La Pax Romana?

My god, stop being so damn naive. So you think that if guns didn't exist, crime and violence would magically disappear? The most brutal wars and brutal periods throughout history were before firearms ever existed. There have been violent criminals and humans have been killing each other for thousands of years. Guns changed nothing. Peace through superior firepower is not an oxymoron, you're just too thick to look deep enough into the statement to understand it. So many country's love to talk tough against the United States, but none have the balls to invade us - why? It's not because of our diplomacy, it's because we have the best military in the world with the largest arsenal of weapons, bombs, and other things at our immediate disposal. If we did not have these things, there would be no America. Violence must sometimes be met with violence to prevent evil from prevailing. Whether it's an entire military liberating millions of oppressed people from a foreign dictator through a full scale invasion, or a small team of police officers going into a house and using lethal force to rescue a 12 year old hostage - violence is necessary and if you cannot understand this then I don't know what to tell you. It's not pretty and you're more than welcome to look the other way, but it is necessary.

Public high school in Japan makes most American universities look like a joke. There's a big culture shift going on in Japan between the old guys who worked themselves to death and their "too lazy" kids who are anti-establishmen and don't want to work, period. So, they dye their hair pink, and stay inside playing video games, etc, while their parents hate them. It's been awhile, but I read a real interesting article about the changing of the guard, where the elders just really kind of hate their kids and the video game/manga/punk rock culture that goes on. But, it's a moot point.
September 19, 200620 yr look i dont see this world ever getting rid of guns, bombs ect. but you re failing to see my point...we are all people....we should try and coexist peacefully and that doesnt mean one country act like a policeman with all the firearms...if people ever realize that we are just going to destroy each other then they would stop but i think it will be too late before that realization ever comes..my point is that we shouldn't need guns to protect ourselves because there shouldnt be people trying to kill us....and imo most of the hatred towards us stems from jealousy that we kind of hog stuff for ourselves....we also need to work for the betterment of humanity by feeding people, medicine ect....get my drift please

Seems very naive. Hatred is between humans. Weapons can't hate. And weapons aren't used purely out of hate. Initially guns were a survival tool and some level so are bombs (it's why so many people want nuclear weapons; nobody can f*** with you if you've got them, or they'd be really pressed to).

The US spends more money on global humaniarian aid than the next 10 countries combined. Whenever there is a major disaster around the globe, it is the United States who are the international first responders. We shouldn't need guns and bombs to protect ourselves because there shouldn't be people who want to kill us? Well boohoo, thinking like that is simply unrealistic. If Buckeye... BUCKEYE!!!!!! of all people has been able to do a complete 180 and realize these things, so should you. When you stop basing your opinions on knee jerk reactionism and "feelings" wishing society was one big utopia and and start having a realistic outlook on things by realizing that there are bad people in this world who want to kill you whether you like it or not, you'll understand that guns and other things are a necessity in this world. Do you think the terrorists cared if Nick Berg was anti-war? Do you think the terrorists cared if Jill Carroll was a missionary? Do you think they cared about the 3,000 innocent men, women, and children who died on 9/11?

September 19, 200620 yr Wow buckeye, you went from being an anti-American libtard to a red blooded patriot. And all you had to do was agree with accord. Even though you came to your viewpoint independently and through your own choice, imagine how much of a patriot you would be if you blindly agreed with him? Man, theyd put you on a coin!
September 19, 200620 yr Two comments: -I agree that we have to have some minor amount of protection, at the very least, in order to maintain our nation. -I also have to agree that if we didn't have so many troops in the Middle East, it would improve our standing in the Islamic world. It probably scares them to death to have our powerful army sitting on their front lawn all the time. I certainly wouldn't blame them for being scared of us, we're the only superpower on this planet. However, as a superpower, we have the moral responsibility not to use our power for imperialistic goals.

September 19, 200620 yr and that we have thousands of soldiers on their soil...if we removed the last one, our relations with the islamic world would improve drastically You and your f*** buddy FutureGM keep bringing this up. Do you not realize that we didn't have tens of thousands of troops in the middle east when we were attacked on 9/11? We didn't have tens of thousands of troops in the middle east when the USS Cole was attacked? We didn't have tens of thousands of troops in the middle east when our embassies were bombed? We didn't have tens of thousands of troops in the middle east when the WTC was bombed for the first time? So sorry to have to break this to you, but pulling out will do nothing for our relations or our security.
September 19, 200620 yr If you want to blame the violent crime culture that is the youth of America, blame rap music.... or better yet, blame the parents who allow their kids to listen to that garbage. Rock fans blame rap music, rap fans blame rock music. Neither is to blame.....it's country! In all seriousness, the latter part of what I quoted is half right. It's the parents fault alright, but not for letting their kids listen to the music. No, they're just not educating their kids properly. Music doesn't kill people, other people do (and natural disasters). dont forget Chuck Norris :thumbup
