What to expect this offseason??

Featured Replies

What do each of you expect to do this offseason? Here are my predictions.....come up with your own....

1) Wes Helms will not be re-signed.

2) Joe Borowski will not be re-signed.

3) Matt Herges and Brian Moehler will not be re-signed.

4) According to rotoworld.....The South Florida Sun-Sentinel speculates that Renyel Pinto could be part of a package of young arms Florida uses as trade bait this offseason.

The team needs a centerfielder and bullpen help and could package up young arms like Pinto, Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia to fill their needs, as opposed to dealing Dontrelle Willis or Miguel Cabrera. The paper suggests Mike Jacobs could be shopped as well. The team is expected to target a young center fielder like Brian Anderson, Matt Kemp or Willy Taveras. Rocco Baldelli is another that interests the Marlins.

So I expect us to deal some young pitching for a CFer. Pinto looks good but I wouldn't mind dealing him and Petit. PLEASE DON'T DEAL JOSE GARCIA!!! I would be willing to trade Pinto, Petit, and Nolasco in the RIGHT deal.

5) We keep Cabrera and Willis. I don't see us trading Willis unless it is an amazing deal.

6) We will sign 2 cheap veterans to fill Helms and Borowski's spots although I believe Tankersley will get a shot at closing.

7) We better keep Miguel Olivo because we don't have any other options at catcher!

What do you think?

I'm not going to look up the date, but this was from a Mike Berardino column of about three days ago and it's just going in a circle.

I would think, unless he was part of a trade for someone very special, after the September Reynol Pinto had (10 appearances, 0.00 era), trading him for a CFer only weakens the bullpen and the team as a whole. Ditto Garcia, less so, but certainly encouraging in Sept.

But this story is not new, and it's a column, opinion, and not necessarily based on anything factual.

8,000,000,000 reasons why it's perfectly acceptable to keep our payroll at a nauseatingly low level despite the numerous financial safe-guards in place by MLB and the ability of other teams in similar situations (Oakland) to do so.

Seriously, this offseason is either going to be spectacular or break your hand on a wall bad.
