The 2006 NLCS: New York Mets VS. St. Louis Cardinals

Featured Replies

Tough break for Weaver.........one pitch sunk him.

Mets have that special something this year

bastards

Detroit are the only team that could stop the Mets this year, and how sweet that would be if they did it.

Already giving the Mets the series 8 innings into game 1?

*sigh*

I gave them this series three days ago when the match-up was known.

*nods*

If they lose tonight... Carpenter going tomorrow, this series can easily be 1-1 going back to STL. I wouldn't be so quick as to say the Mutts have it.

Anyway, I sure hope the Mets don't win this series. As great as it would be to see them lose in the WS, I don't want them to even be NL Champs.

Exactly.

After everyone anointed the Yankees the best team ever following a single game and then got steam rolled the rest of the series, we should all know better then to get caught up in emotions and the present. We've seen too many improbable and good comebacks to believe that things can be over so quickly.

Momentum is only as good as your next pitcher.

If Jeff Weaver can hold the Mets to 2 runs in a game, this series is very winnable for the Cards after just one game, one which isn't even over.

the somewhat overrated-this-year Glavine(post ASB era of 4.33 and WHIP of 1.35)

After the game, that was the one quote that stuck out in my mind.

P.S., Albert Pujols is a brat.

Pujols did not say this did he?

He didn't impress Pujols that much, though.

"He wasn't good," Pujols said. "I think we hit the ball hard. We didn't get some breaks."

As much as I hate to admit it, Glavine looked pretty damn good last night.

And in another quote he threw his teammates under the bus. Great player, but he just can't handle the media.

If Pujols really said that, it's an extremely ungracious comment. I thought he was classier than that.

A peeved Pujols snapped at reporters following his 0-for-3 outing that included a costly baserunning blunder in the Mets' 2-0 Game 1 win, claiming that Glavine wasn't fooling any of the St. Louis hitters and that the NL Central champs should have lit up the lefty.

"He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all," Pujols said of Glavine, who threw seven innings of four-hit ball for the victory. "I think we hit the ball hard, we didn't get some breaks.

"I say he wasn't good at all. We just didn't get some opportunities and that's it. . . . (Glavine did the) same thing that he always does. Throw a changeup, fastball and that was it. I just think we should've done a better job than we did."

Seems highly out of character for Pujols.

Edit: (From my post at CCH)

About that Pujols comment.. where is this coming from? Does he know this is his last go around at a chance for a WS title (and truthfully it is) even though his team isnt very capable of getting there? We know that's what he wants.. but that comment was beyond ridiculous IMO.. then you have him throwing Scott Rolen under the bus.. and this, from our supposed leader? Give me a break and get real Albert.. help your team win ballgames in the playoffs and give credit when it's due.. that doesnt mean I dont think Glavine wasnt that good because quite frankly I dont think he was but he still pitched 7 shutout innings.. The Mets players are furious over his comments and I hope he doesnt regret saying it. I like Pujols, everyone does as far as I know but I've noticed the cockyness and ripping on team members far often more this year than in any.. I do remember him sticking up for Izzy and Juan to start the year and thought that's what he should be doing but this season has sucked and during the suckage Pujols is growing old with this act. I dont care what anyone wants to say about my comments because really.. I dont think Pujols is all that with his comments right now. Just go shut up and play baseball!
