October 18, 200620 yr Florida Marlins Yusmeiro Petit It seems as though 2006 was a year in which they called up all of their young arms. With Anibal now ineligible, Petit is next in line, followed closely by Volstad. 2) Chris Volstad, 3) Gaby Sanchez, 4) Jose Garcia, 5) Sean West from that site how do they not mention gaby hernandez or jose garcia being ahead of volstad for reaching the majors

Thoughts...? http://www.topprospectalert.com/top100baseballprospects.htm Heres the Link guys I find the list to be very confusing. I do not believe Philip Hughes to be the best pitching prospect in the minors. Tabata is very nice prospect but by no mean would I rate him over Ellsbury, Pence or Rasmus. Whoever compled the list must be a huge Yankee fan. We only have 2 Marlins on the list I believe our pitching prospects are being very much ignored. It is evident the list shows very little research in its formulation
October 26, 200620 yr Author Who do you think is the best pitching prospect in the minors? I agree this list is pretty bad, as I stated before. But I don't think many people would argue that Hughes is the wrong choice as the top pitching prospect on any list, all things considered. Even though a couple of guys (Bailey, Gallardo) come close. IMO 1-10 is decent, although Butler needs to be in there somewhere. After that, for the most part, is where it starts really going wacko.
October 27, 200620 yr Gallardo is nasty. He pitched for the A team I worked for, and I was impressed every time. The Brewers pitching depth on the farm is absolutely disgusting.
October 28, 200620 yr Craig Hansen doesn't even have prospect status anymore. Gallardo, Homer Bailey, Pelphry and Hochevar come to my mind to be better prospects
October 28, 200620 yr Author Craig Hansen doesn't even have prospect status anymore. Gallardo, Homer Bailey, Pelphry and Hochevar come to my mind to be better prospects That's probably why they're all ranked higher, I believe, than Hansen

Gallardo, Homer Bailey, Pelphry and Hochevar come to my mind to be better prospects Posted Oct 26 2006, 8:23 PM Sorry quoted wrong post No worries. Well like I said, Gallardo and Bailey do come close to Hughes. Moreso Gallardo at this point. As far Hochevar, he's about 3 years older than the rest of the lot, and has yet to pitch successfully above A-ball. So I would reserve judgement on him for the time being. Pelfrey is 2+ years older than Hughes, and is at a similiar stage in development . I'm not going to say anything deragatory about Pelfrey, because seeing him pitch, I think he's going to be a top of the rotation lock for a long time. It's just that at this point, he's not a better prospect than Hughes. Both have similar arsenals, but Hughes is 2 years younger than Pelfrey and has been just as dominant, or even moreso in AA. Homer Bailey, had a somewhat shaky start in A-ball, but than went on to Chatty and blew everyone away. And for me, thats why he's below Hughes on this list. He needs to develop his secondary pitches, particularly an effective curveball. Hughes, Gallardo and Pelfrey both have + curves, Bailey has been living on the fastball for the greater majority of his pitches, based on everything I've heard/seen/read. Hughes also put up better peripherals in AA then Bailey, in 50 or so more innings of work. I'm no different from anyone else, thinking Bailey will be a great pitcher in the near future, but for right now Hughes is the more polished prospect. Yovanni Gallardo. I know his fastball doesnt quite touch with the likes of Hughes and Bailey, but he has nasty offspeed stuff that includes a +curve he can throw consistently and that should develop into his out pitch. It's hard to compare their AA stats between two different leagues, and the fact that Hughes had 39 more IP than Gallardo. Gallardo has got the better ERA, although in less IP. Hughes has a lower BAA, and a higher GB/FB. Phils BB/K is 32/138 compared to Gallardos 28/85. Hughes also has a lower whip (0.90) in more IP than Gallardos ( 1.00 ). This comparison has to be the closest to Hughes, but there really is no clear-cut "better prospect". Although, looking at the peripherals and what they both ahve to offer, Hughes in my eyes has a slight advantage thus far. Only the future will tell.

IMO 1-10 is decent, although Butler needs to be in there somewhere. After that, for the most part, is where it starts really going wacko. Thanks for the insight, I really enjoyed it. I often try to look up scouting reports on different players but they are not easy to comeby, without joining certain paysites
