Posted March 4, 200718 yr Interesting that Gaby's name is being thrown around to win the 5th spot in the rotation. I know its unlikely but it will be interesting to see what happens. On the move: Most likely, Gaby Hernandez will open the year in Double-A. But the 20-year-old right-hander conceivably could win a rotation spot coming out of Spring Training. Even if he doesn't, it will just be a matter of time before he makes his Major League debut http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=fla
March 4, 200718 yr Author Not if he keeps playing the way he did yesterday. Well, its still early. He could be dominant (I know unlikely) from now on, you never know. We will just have to wait and see what happens with Gaby!
March 4, 200718 yr Possibly, hey maybe the Rays will be receiving Nolasco soon. I think you may be right...It appears the D-Rays are ready to play "Let's make a deal" then just their regular posturing , also Elsbury may have become despensable by the Red Sox. Nolasco and Mitre may become Red Soxs or D-Rays very soon
March 4, 200718 yr He won't get a shot ahead of Mitre, Garcia, and Petit edit: and we know how frugal the team is, not like they want to start up Gaby's "clock"

March 4, 200718 yr Just throwing this out there: but does anyone else get the feeling that the Marlins organization is hyping Gaby big time? Almost like they want to use him as a/the chip to get that CFer. Possibly, hey maybe the Rays will be receiving Nolasco soon. It is a bunch of wild double speak

March 5, 200718 yr Our SP candidates with Johnson out and possibly Nolasco traded would be.... Here are their stats this spring (counting the Hurricanes game) S. Mitre (injured) Jose Garcia 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K - 0.00 ERA Yusmeiro Petit 2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K - 13.50 ERA Gaby Hernandez 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K - 16.36 ERA Chris George 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K - 0.00 ERA Wes Obermueller 2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K - 9.00 ERA Paul Mildren 1.1 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1 K - 40.91 ERA Narrowing it down.....Obermuller is not the answer and has never been good. Petit could be a total bust. I haven't counted him out yet but everything I've read said his stuff is VERY AVERAGE and he'll be lucky to be a spot starter in the majors. Fredi Gonzalez doesn't see Mitre as a starter and most Marlin fans agree with him. Paul Mildren is completely blowing his chance. Gaby could get major leaguers out now but the Fish won't rush him. That leaves Chris George....an average pitcher at best who has some upside. It also leaves Jose Garcia who if he continues to pitch well this spring should get our #5 SP role! I wish Rick Vanden Hurk was here because he would look awesome in our rotation!
