Coming up: The Marlins travel to Fort Lauderdale Stadium on Tuesday to take on the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. ET. Minor Leaguer Rick Vanden Hurk, who has not been in big-league camp, will get the start. Henry Owens, Matt Lindstrom, Nate Field, Felix Rodriguez and Roy Corcoran also are slated to pitch. Steve Trachsel also is slotted to pitch for Baltimore.

I read somewhere (So many articles posted I forgot which one) that Julio is required to be at Wednesday's game.

Man... Juilo is taken, Petit is sent, and Vanden Hurk gets the start tomorrow?

Beinfest is really showing himself this week.

I'll be there tomorrow.

Whats wrong with Vanden Hurk starting?

This is a good opportunity for the kid to show what he's got. I might just make the drive to Ft. Lauderdale to get a look at big Vanden Hurk.

Yea I'm thinking I might have to find a way to make it to the game tomorrow. I want to see him pitch.

No, I am excited that Vanden Hurk is getting the ball, don't get me wrong.

Beinfest has always been alarmingly open about how much he likes Vanden Hurk, and how indifferent he is towards Petit. It's just interesting how Petit leaves, and Vanden Hurk gets a start in the same day. Beinfest is either showing off Vanden Hurk as a favor to one of his GM friends, or making a statement saying now that Petit is gone, Vanden Hurk will get the same shot as Volstad, Gaby, or Sean West... and he should.

I don't think so. Marlins2003's initial reaction is probably correct. Vanden Hurk is being showcased. For who and for what are the more interesting questions.

I doubt Vanden Hurk is being showcased. Beinfest loves this guy. I think he's MLB ready now but we won't rush him. Here's to a good showing today!

He hasn't been in major league camp all month. All of the sudden, less than a week away from opening day, they fly him out for one start.

What other conclusion can you draw from that? He is definitely being showcased.
