Stokes traded

Featured Replies

I was just going to say.

What the living hell does it matter if Baker was a fan favorite?

I think its a trade the Marlins had to make for the better of Stokes' career if nothing else. A change of scenery can often help a player out. Oakland liked him, we had a need for a AAA catcher, provides some depth, the other catchers arent anywhere close to really being ready this year, you know the ones that could actually be good, aka Hayes.

Its a minor deal. It may turn out to be a horrible deal in the end for us, but Stokes was never going to do it in this organization. Like I said, a change of scenery may help him tremendously.

Baker is an all star AAA player, but he will never amount to anything in the majors, a perfect example of the AAAA player. Hopefully he can stick at some point with some organization in the bigs. I just hope its not with us.

I actually think Baker can be solid in the majors- a borderline starter (most likely backup). He is better than Treanor is now. To say he will never amount to anything is a bit wrong.....nobody knows. No one thought Willis even had major league stuff to be a starter- scouts thought he was a bullpen guy.

That's not fair to Willis or Baker. Dontrelle dominated the minor leagues and at a very young age. Baker hasn't dominated anywhere, ever. And he is 26 years old now.

edit: Baker had a nice season in A ball a few years ago

so it's wrong to say Baker won't amount to anything, but ok for you to say the same about Stokes?

With all due respect to Gaby Sanchez, he has never done anything outside of low-A ball.

Seriously though, you are a homer. At best, BEST, Baker becomes our backup catcher next year (possibly starter but with 2008 supposed to be our year, that won't happen... I hope) and Jason Stokes never does anything of note. That's the absolute best case scenario here.

On a random note, has Beinfest ever made a bad trade in your eyes?

how about Choi, Holandsworth, Bowyer, Leiter, Oliver?... anyway, if you seriously don't believe that Beinfest can do any wrong, we can no longer have an intelligent conversation regarding player personnel.

And did you seriously say "Willis off the scrap heaps"? Just because you had never heard of him, doesn't mean he wasn't known around baseball.

A player to be named later turning into a Cy Young, All Star #1 pitcher is considered scrap heaps.....your baseball knowledge is suspect at best.

RAMP in the minor league forum......

"absolutely terrible trade for Florida

at best, Baker becomes a backup catcher... what is the point of giving up on Jason Stokes for this non prospect?

boggles the mind sometimes"

Based on what? Stokes sucks and Baker is more of a prospect than him at this point! haha

When healthy, Stokes is ten times the prospect Baker is.

That is kinda of a huge qualifier in this case , don't you think?

Yep. Which is why I don't like the trade but it will probably amount to nothing so I'm not worried about it.

I'll give this trade a big who cares.

Ugh... closser is terrible. If he ever had a chance to be a starting catcher, people would probably attempt 150 SB on him in a season. CS% is one thing to look at but the truth lies in amount of attempts. That said, 17 attempts is no way to judge a guy.. lol

Granted I dont know anything about this catcher we got... but how can anyone say without flinching that a guy who couldnt hit his weight in DENVER is better offensively? Looks like a career AAA player to me.

If Beinfest really liked Baker he would have kept him when we had him last offseason.

Beinfest didnt "rip" Beane off. I would actually look at it the other way around because we had Baker last year and we let him go. So we basically could have kept him for nothing but we gave something up for him... So let me get this straight... You give a player up for someone you had a year before and you rip the other team off? wow...

:banghead Exactly....how was this a good trade ? We had the guy and let him go for nothing, and then to get him back we have to give up something. :banghead :banghead :banghead

just think of this as it taking almost 2 years to decide to realease Stokes.
