Philly Series

I think we have the advantage in today's pitching matchup. Moyer WAS the better pitcher at one time, but I'm not sure he still is at this point in his career. Last year his combined record with the Mariners and the Phillies was 11-14 with an ERA of 4.30. Now, those aren't exactly terrible numbers, but I'd say that they're far from good. Moyer has 20 years in the majors and has finished with an ERA under 4.00 in 8 of those seasons, with the last one being in 2003.

Mitre on the other hand, doesn't have near the track record of Moyer, but I'd like to think that: 1. He's got more upside due to his age. 2. His stuff is better at this point in his career than Moyer's is at this point in his career. 3. Mitre has more motivation to perform well due to the Marlins having pitchers that can jump in and take his spot in the rotation.

As far as pitching matchups go, I'd definatly say Philly has the advantage today, but in the next games, the advantage belongs to the Marlins.

Today's pitching matchup is a big question mark in my mind though. I really have no idea how it'll play out, but the Phillies have the better bullpen (even though Gordon has only been slightly better than Julio this season).

Last year Moyer's 4.30 ERA was better than the average starter's ERA. With his 4.30 ERA and 200+ innings at this stage of his career Moyer is basically a No. 3 starter. Other than prinmemito I don't know of anyone else who expects Mitre to become a No. 3 starter. Perhaps you do as well.

If Mitre was starting for the Phillies we would be licking our chops right now.

It would be great to end the weekend 4-2, especially if we can secure victory tonight and Saturday.

I say that as much as a fan as from a marketing standpoint. Friday setting up Saturday as a weekly event for the season by some early season victories can have a big impact on weekend attendance and ultimately trickling down to improved attendance throughout the week.

Couldn't agree more with that right there

It's a new season man. Our hitters have a year of experience under their belts.

Sure, you can throw me in with prinmemito. You can also throw the Marlins FO in with us, too, since they named Mitre our No. 2 starter at the beginning of last season.
