April 9, 200719 yr I feel like we've got absolutely nothing to lose by trying to fix this guy, can't cost too much at this point either. thoughts?
April 9, 200719 yr we already have one expensive project. bet they wish they traded him to bosox 2 years ago
April 9, 200719 yr Even with the money considered, I'd rather have him over Julio. You look at his numbers and he's still got 'enough' there to warrant his being considered a legitimate reclamation project, and even last year (his worst as a closer) he still sported a WHIP that was as good as what Julio sports in his good years. I'd take him, but given how tight money is with Julio (since no one is taking him off our hands) and how limited our resources our, I understand why we'd pass, and while our bullpen is not exceptional, it is deep enough with similar talent (especially when Garcia and Tank are healthy) that it's hard to justify trading for a "fixer uper."
April 9, 200719 yr dumb rumor to start. hes not going out of houston. and if he does someone with money will pay up for him. yankees might need someone young to help out when mariano leaves, same could be said with a number of teams.
April 9, 200719 yr If our pen was struggling right now than I would consider it, but the only man struggling is essentially our version of Lidge, so why would we go and add another problem?
April 10, 200719 yr For our end, if a straight Julio for Lidge trade could be made, sure I would say go for it. To trade someone else to bring in Lidge would be silly. We don't necessarily have a problem with bullpen depth, more that we are trying to justify an expensive closer who isn't performing. Bringing in Lidge right now would only double that problem if it didn't involve getting rid of Julio. That also said, it will never happen. While we might prefer to have the struggling closer who has had much more past success, there is nothing in such a trade for the Astros. it's a lateral movement from one failed closer to another, only the new one has less career success to draw hope from.
April 10, 200719 yr not going to work, for more than one reason. a) because it wont b) because its the marlins ownership c) because he is a higher paid closer d) because we already have depth e) beacuse its the marlins ownership f) because houston is going to want a package like a RP, IF (for help when Biggio is done) and possibly more g) because julio for lidge would go down as the dumbest trade in MLB for a while.
April 10, 200719 yr not going to work, for more than one reason. a) because it wont Good reason. But I do agree with you.
April 10, 200719 yr trade him for julio Thats the only way I see this trade happening. i was actually kidding because it wouldnt happen money wise... but it would be trash for trash
April 10, 200719 yr I'd say pass as well. Once our bullpen gets healthy I think there are enough options of inexperienced, but potentially solid closers who can fill the spot.
April 10, 200719 yr Brad Lidge is a substantially better pitcher than what the media makes him out to be. Whatever team acquires him will be giving up a lot less for him than it should.
April 10, 200719 yr I was watching Baseball Tonight after the Marlins game yesterday and they were talking about Lidge's problem. Basically he's getting away from his slider. Most of the runs he's allowed are because he has been reluctant to use his slider (for whatever reason) and going to a cut fastball that just moves in to the hitter. The hitters' eyes light up and there goes the ball! Lidge is fine. He just needs some help from his pitching coach. No way the Astros are giving up on him.
April 10, 200719 yr Brad Lidge would save 45-50 games in Florida. Guaranteed. puhlease dude is Mitch Williams v2.0
