April 27, 200719 yr I met most of those senators this past week and asked a few about the bill and that list seems pretty correct. I think Bullard would be in favor for it. I Think that becasue she seemed pretty concerned about the financial wellbeing of Miami and this could only help the city. She also is a very down to earth lady, very nice. Lets make phone calls tomarrow to the senators and tell them we want them to support SB 544!

April 27, 200719 yr Author The Senate Commerce Committee approved the bill 8-0, but some member on there are still questions marks in my head. Chair: Senator Alex Diaz de la Portilla ( R ) Vice Chair: Senator Charlie Justice ( D ) Senator Victor D. Crist ( R ) Senator Rudy Garcia ( R ) Senator Evelyn J. Lynn ( R ) Senator Steve Oelrich ( R ) Senator Jeremy Ring ( D ) Senator Burt L. Saunders ( R ) Senator Gary Siplin ( D ) Now remember, all of the above folks voted this bill on out of committee favorably. The colors are what we have them on the board as.
April 27, 200719 yr Author How many commitees does this bill have to go through? Senate has a House Message on it. SENATE MESSAGES. Bills that pass the House are often amended by the Senate. Once the Senate amends a House bill, it is returned to the House in the form of a “Senate Message. The Senate amendment to the House bill presents several choices to the House relative to how to proceed to passage of the bill under consideration. The House may concur in the Senate amendment, and then vote for final passage of the bill as amended. The House may take one of the following courses of action that would require further Senate action before the ultimate passage of the bill: The House could amend the Senate amendment, refuse to concur in the Senate amendment and ask that the Senate recede from its amendment, or the House could request that the Senate recede and if the Senate refuses to recede appoint a conference committee to address differences between the House and the Senate. The Speaker may refer a Senate amendment to a House bill to the appropriate House council or committee for review and report to the House. The council or committee shall report to the House the recommendation for disposition of the Senate amendment or amendments under one of the options discussed above

April 27, 200719 yr What I hope to see happen: Fl. Senate votes on the House bill AS IS and the vote to be very close What might actually happen: Fl. Senate amends the bill and sends it back to the House. House Speaker might be forced to send that amended bill back to committee, depending on what new language is put in there. This easily sends us into crunch time and that famous marathon session. Boy oh boy!

April 27, 200719 yr I emailed Rudy Garcia and urged him to push this bill big time. I am sure his response is going to be that he's doing exactly that. Everyone else bombard their Senators with calls and emails!!!!
April 27, 200719 yr Don't worry about Sen. Dave Aronberg, he's on board. He's my law partner and we text message each other at least once a week. He voted in favor of it last time (told me about the nice thank you note he got from Mayor Robaina). However, where do you get that Sen. Ted Deutch is on board. His previous public comments on this were pretty wishy-washy. I know Ted (I helped him campaign and hosted some events for him) and I don't think he's 100% on board. Plus, here's a tip, those guys rarely read their "official" e-mails. I know that if I need to get a hold of Dave or Ted (or my House folks Shelley Vana, Susan Bucher, or Richard Machek), I either text them or use their personal e-mails. That's why people hire lobbyists (like your's truly) to get a hold of them!
April 27, 200719 yr Sample email - feel free to cut/paste/send - Mr. President & Honorable Senators: It is my understanding that the Florida House of Representatives has passed legislation authorizing a limited sales tax rebate to the Florida Marlins, for the purpose of constructing a regional sports facility in Miami-Dade county. I fully support this legistation, and look to you to pass it in the Senate and present it to Governor Crist for his signature. Thank you. (Add your name & address)
