The Season is a Marathon

Featured Replies

Remember how the team played and fought against the Phillies.

Remember how emotional many of us were, and proud of our guys for playing hard, and well.

There's an ebb and flow to the season.

The team also, more than any of us, was spent after that emotional series.

Add in a young team with injuries against a veteran team with more talent and the result of the Mets series was quite predictable.

It is a marathon. But we needed to win at least one game, esp. since it was a home series. The mets have won the last 7 games at DS, which is not good.

At the start of the series I was hoping we'd take 1 of 3 so my expectations were very low. Maine owned us his last start and the Mets offense is far superior to ours.

Olsen got some unlucky breaks and didnt handle the adversity well at all.

Lets make this the official "cliche" thread. I'll start:

You've gotta take it one game at a time.

We have to start bringing our "A game"

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a team with a manager who said "one game at a time" get into the playoffs. They usually end up 5-6 wins out of the last playoff spot. Every game is important and they add up at the end of the season.

But you have to have heart.

It's clear that this team needs to start executing.

Get back to basics.

lets just call a spade a spade and say this team needs to pitch better.

I dont want to beat around the bush, but our hitting has been weak as well.

Nah. The starters have been fine for the month. I think ranked 5th. The pen has been right up there as well. The problem is the defense. Sloppy, inconsistent, and lazy. We are #1 in errors. And if you were to throw in balls that weren't gotten to that someone else playing the same position could or the player just didn't try as errors then the number would be astronomical. When the offense struggles the defense should be pulling you through. Look at the first 8 innings Thursday compared to the last inning as a great example.
