  1. Is this supposed to be a poem or some type of haiku or soliloquy?
  2. I agree in 2003s assesment that Hanley Ramirez is NOT a good defensive shortstop, and the fact that he said that doesn't mean 2003 is on a crusade to trash Ramirez. I have yet to see him bash Hanley's work with the bat. But I don't agree with him on a midseason position change and bringing back offensive liability Alex Gonzalez. Over the course of this season, Ramirez' offensive talent will more than make up for his lack of defensive talent. In the offseason however, I wouldn't be opposed to a position change if the organization can somehow find an average offensive shortstop with average to above average defense. That however is unlikely considering the prices players of that caliber and lesser talent are going for. BTW, Olivo should have had that throw. Easily.
  3. While I know you can see the Miami skyline from the open end of the Orange Bowl, its not the same. Thanks to Baltimore, Colorado, etc. a ballpark situated in a parking lot in suburbia wont cut it in this day and age. A downtown location with good sightlines not only of the action but of the cities downtown up close and personal with some manner of nightlife surrounding it is the key to survival. Location draws just as much as amenities. The current location of the OB is not suburbia. It's about a mile and a half from the CBD.
  4. Hey Johnny, can you catch a throw from a shortstop in the 9th inning of a tie game? If you can, that would be sooooo cool, so yeah, you're awesome and I want to see you up in the big leagues ASAP....while I can....can you sign my c a w k?
  5. Spike's got Mitre's skeet skeet skeet all over his face right now.
  6. Welcome to my world. I have had this hate for the Phillies since 2001.
  7. I am not surpised at all. Canseco said it in his Juiced book, more and more is proving a fact out of that book which I've read over and over (about 15 times now.) How can anyone sudject themselves to that book so many times?
  8. I'm nervous. Play (outs). You've been nervous during games as long as I've known you. Relax. It's the nature of baseball. It's meant to be relaxing. And exciting. Last time I was nervous was game 7 1997 WS after 6 innings before Bonilla's HR. Liar. That or your not a real fan. :-o
  9. When optimism gets in the way of making rational decisions, optimism must be thrown out the window for realism. But hey, that's just my opinion. The fact is Reggie will not come close to putting up the numbers needed by this team for him to be a productive lead-off hitter. He has a hard enough time becoming a productive member of the line-up! The only level at which he got on-base at a respectable rate was rookie ball (.360) and high A+ (.348), other than that he has a career on-base percentage in pro baseball of .303. That's terrible. That's craptastic. Anyone who can justify putting Reggie at lead-off (other than the 'well it's working for us now' argument) is just being a Reggie homer. Reggie is an athlete, not a baseball player. Even though it's AAA, 2 things stand out from Reggie's 6 weeks in Albuquerque. His .353 OBP and his .373 OBP with no one on base. Based on what I've seen of Reggie Abercrombie over the last year and the statistics over his career, I have serious doubts he can maintain a OBP even 15-25 points lower than that. Even if he did manage to produce at that level (.335-.345 OBP), Hanley Ramirez could easily post a .370-.380 OBP which would lead to more production in terms of runs driven in by those in the lower part of the line-up.

  11. Results are doing the talking for Beinfest and the Marlins FO baseball people. That's all I have to say Yup, although I thought we would have a nice bullpen, I didn't really see what the bullpen has done so far coming. Best collection of relief arms Beinfest has ever put together. Yes I know that isn't saying much considering how bad the bullpen has been the last 3 years but you know what I mean.
  12. '03 What a year it seemed like he was horrible, but he did get us 15 wins. He was our best pitcher for most of the year. Yup. I always felt like he didn't get the due he deserved even during that season.
  13. A review of the Marlins-Phillies rivalry since I've been following the Marlins: -July 2001: The 5 game sweep in Philadelphia that basically ends the up-and-coming Marlins season. -2002: Philly domination of the Marlins continues headed by Bobby Abreu and Jimmy Rollins. -2003: The Wild Card race. Marlins domination of the Phillies down the stretch. Jeff Conine's catch in Philadelphia in late September. Conine follows up the Catch with a HUGE series against the Phillies a few days later in the final sweep that eliminates the Phillies from play-off contention. -2004: Brawl in Philly. Marlins domination of the Phillies continues. Countless heartbreaking (for Philly) losses (Lowell 3 homer game, Choi BOMB at DS, Benitez comes in in the 8th bases loaded 3-1 count and escapes, etc.). -2005: Marlins dominate Philly early in the season but the tide turns in the last few months. In late Sept. the 9 run, 9th inning at Dolphin Stadium, with D-Train on the mound, on national TV, in the heat of the playoff race. -2006: Phillies dominate (just absolute domination) young Marlins. Phillie attack led by Utley, Rollins and Howard, all three of which look godly against the Marlins. Olsen "I hate Philadelphia" comments. EASILY the biggest rival the Marlins have had since I started following this team on an everyday basis in 2001. I HATE HATE HATE losing to the Phillies.
  14. Sorry I don't want our ballpark to resemble Minute Maid Park with all the hokey attractions.
  15. Mushmouth + Migrane = RaysBall *runs screaming away from St. Pete* Throw in the "Take Me Out to the Rays Game" song and you've got yourself a winner for many years to come. They use that song as the bumper and intro music for the Rays TV Net games over-the-air. Rays Radio uses it as well as their theme. It is better when overused than when underused. When they overuse it....they usually only use the music and not the voice track like they do for the ads. In case you want to hear "Take Me Out To The Rays Game," http://tampabay.devilrays.mlb.com/tb/fan_f...commercials.jsp Sorry, I think I'll pass. That song is craptasticly amazing.

  17. Staats' voice sooths the soul, while Dwayne Staats can be funny every once in awhile. So Migrane should just end himself? No better place than God's Waiting Room....St. Petersburg, Florida. Exactly! :shifty Fixed! Staats' voice sooths the soul, while Magraine can be funny every once in awhile. :mischief2
  18. I enjoy listening to Staats and Magraine. I do too....when my television is muted and their words appear on the closed captioning. You are a clever one Mr. CapeFish. Why deny the truth about Mushmouth and Migrane? Staats' voice sooths the soul, while Dwayne Staats can be funny every once in awhile.
