Posted October 28, 200717 yr http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...,0,674223.story Miami wants Marlins' reply on Orange Bowl site By Sarah Talalay South Florida Sun-Sentinel October 26, 2007 The city of Miami is pushing ahead with plans to demolish the Orange Bowl after its last scheduled event ? a high school sporting event on Jan. 4 ? but wants to know if the Marlins want to build a ballpark there. Miami City Commissioners decided Thursday they want a full report on the status of ballpark negotiations at their Dec. 13 meeting, but they also want a public declaration from the Marlins sooner as to whether the team wants a stadium at the Orange Bowl site. Commissioners said a decision needs to be made about the future of the location. Commission Vice Chairman Joe Sanchez said the city has been negotiating with the Marlins long enough and if a ballpark will not be built there, he wants the city to consider options such as a park, soccer stadium or affordable housing. City Manager Pete Hernandez said he will bring back a full report Dec. 13. The Marlins and Major League Baseball have expressed concerns about the economic success of a ballpark at the Orange Bowl and Hernandez said the team's contribution will be less there than it would to a downtown ballpark. But MLB President Bob DuPuy said Wednesday the Orange Bowl site is the only location being considered. The Marlins declined to comment Thursday.
October 28, 200717 yr Please say yes you cheaper you know what. Im begging you! Or we could build a park in Weston
October 28, 200717 yr Please, just say it Loria, "I never intended on paying for anything, no rent, no contributions, nothing. You should kiss my carpetbaggind a-- and build me a stadium on oceanfront (bayfront would be ok) property. Give me 100% of parking and concessions and be thankful that I brought you a championship in 2003 (boy, did I luck out there). "
October 28, 200717 yr Please say yes you cheaper you know what. Im begging you! Or we could build a park in Weston I'm sorry, but WHO is going to "build a park in Weston"? The Marlins? The same team that just cut their "contribution" to the OB site by almost 50%?!?!? The City of Weston? Where is the "land" in Weston for a stadium? Who owns it? The City? And were is the shortfall from a Weston park going to come from? Broward County?!?!? The same government that has flat out said they will not contribute a dime (had two commissioners tell me that, personally!). It's going to be OB, or bust! And by "bust," I literally mean bust because where the hell is this team going to go.
October 29, 200717 yr Im just kidding when I say Weston. I know its impossible. Theres plenty and plenty of land though
October 29, 200717 yr Time to force the hand. The City has done everything to cater to the Marlins. Do or die time.

He wants a team but doesn't want to spend money on them.

October 29, 200717 yr He can be forced to sell. And its the one instance where it would most likely not be a PR nightmare for MLB. Loria is a carpet bagger. He isnt wealthy when compared to other owners. I sincerely believe if you looked at his books you would find 3 major jailable offenses(extortion-crying poor all the time, begging for monetary handouts, etc.; money laundering-mishandling money from revenue sharing and team profits and intentionally cooking the books to show an operating loss; misappropriation of funds-channeling money from revenue sharing that is earmarked for the team into his own personal funds and using little if any to upgrade the team). Want to sue me for slander(or would this be liable since its a message board?) go ahead. I am poor, so you wont get anything. Plus you would have to open your books to independent council to prove the allegations wrong. And I dont see Loria doing that, ever, because I really truly believe his books would show Loria to be a white collar criminal of epic proportions.

Such anger-do you realize how much it costs to train for a triathalon. With all the scrutiny, steroid prices have gone through the roof, retrofitting David's swimming pool to be 500 meters etc. And then we have to have this owner and have to watch John Henry on TV spending money like he prints it himself.

October 30, 200717 yr Thay should just say yes it is not far from Downtown actually but yes there is nothing to do around there except Walgreens, Wendy's and low income housing.
October 30, 200717 yr The Marlins simply can't be expected to put up the kind of money being asked for a stadium that's going to fail. We have to live with this decision for 35 years. The OB was considered okay 3 years ago when, as Marlins2003 and others have already stated, there was a parking garage included, a $60 million state subsidy was included, and the overall cost of the project was lower. This is not even close to the same deal. Downtown needs to be put back on the table, notably the government center site. It's a great location and it's where the team will succeed. What good is the OB site if the team still draws 10,000 fans a game and has a $30 million payroll? This is what will happen. Whatever fans are actually gained by having a roof (basically none in my humble opinion) will be most certainly lost in Palm Beach and Broward fans who choose not to make the longer schlep to the OB. For the city, county, and team to spend 500 million bucks, build a stadium that will succeed. Miami city and Miami-Dade county are INSANE if they'd throw in this kind of cash for the OB site (where the city will get no return on its investment besides 25 hotels rooms booked for each home series) but not for downtown (where a return will be huge with restaurants, bars, public transportation ridership and public garage parking).

And most times I am very ashamed of that. Not because of the team, it's record, coaches, management, FO, or ownership. But because of our so called fan base. Not ashamed of being a fan, just ashamed of our fan base in general.
