A-Rod to opt out of contract with Yanks

:lol at Peter Gammons. I usually like him, but his Boston bias reared its ugly head in that package.

A-Rod is soft anyone who gives this guy 30 million a year and signs him till he is 40 will get what they deserve a stat compiler who when the pressure is on folds

based on what ? his playoff performance in the 8 hole for the Yankees last year ? his awesome playoff performance this year?if the Marlins had 30 million to spend in additon to their lowly payroll i wouldnt want to invest it in A-Rod

Yes, it would not make sense for the Marlins, absolutely. No one player should be half of your payroll. That is the one thing I'll give you.

But for a team that has the money, it makes perfect sense. Why? BECAUSE HE IS f***ING GOOD AT BASEBALL! You're going to criticize him because Joe Torre is a f***ing moron and put him in the 8 hole? You're going to base his entire career on 44 at bats? His career .840 OPS in the postseason is f***ing terrible. And his meaningless 1.023 OPS in 3 LCS.

But yeah, arguably the best player in baseball, who carried his team to the playoffs this season is sh*tty because some guy on a message board pays more attention to what idiots like John Kruk and Joe Morgan say than what the actual game or the stats say. Good job, dude.

wow it will be hard to come back from that verbal thrashing you just gave me but I'll try A-Rod is great regular season player no doubt , but is he worth 30 million dollars ? As the highest paid player in baseball or any sport for that matter you are held to a different standard fair or not , you will be judged how your perform on the biggest stage and lets be honest he does not perform well in the playoffs . As for the team with money that is precisely my main point granted i view just about everything from a Marlins prism but most teams are immediately eliminated from A-Rod consideration because they cant afford him . The few that can bar the Yankees even have payroll considerations at 30 million per year A-Rods contract is a noose around a teams neck/ It is not that A-Rod wont put up great regular season numbers it is his contract prohibits even bigger payroll teams from adding talent to win . As we saw in Texas A-Rod cant carry a team by himself if it were me I would rather have 3 good players than A-Rod .

Well, at least you admitted in the opening you had no comeback.

Yeah nothing you can do except tip your hat and say well played sir bobby my daddy. :mischief

fixed that for you.

I always felt A-ROD did not deserve the post season blame he got in NY....last I checked guys like Sheffield and Giambi crapped out equally as well in October and no one said anything about them.....

PAY-ROD is the best in baseball period and some team will pay him, will it be the fish? (my alarm clocks going off so I can stop dreaming)...but with his Miami ties if HE can't bring fans into the park then move the damn team..........

he is a player I would pay to see and fans down here should too.....that said, no chance he comes here and remember

"its not about the money!!"

A-Rod a Mud Hen? Triple-A Toledo makes a playful offer

November 1, 2007

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez a Mud Hen?

Spurred by an offhand remark from George Steinbrenner's son, the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens want in on the A-Rod sweepstakes.

The Mud Hens playfully offered the prize free agent a deal Thursday -- a contract proposal that includes a bonus for hitting 75 home runs next year and leading them to 10 straight International League titles.

Rodriguez recently opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the New York Yankees. That prompted Hank Steinbrenner, son of the Yankees owner, to tell the New York Times: "Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, or a Toledo Mud Hen?"

The Mud Hens conjured up an offer to find out, said Jason Griffin, a spokesman for the Detroit Tigers' top farm team.

Toledo created a Hall of Fame plaque of Rodriguez wearing a Mud Hens hat and sent a letter to his agent, Scott Boras.

The deal stipulates that Rodriguez will have to compete for a spot with Toledo third basemen Mike Hessman, the league's most valuable player last season.

"Would your client be willing to play a different position?" the letter asked.

:lol

Awesome.

BTW They said on sportscenter that Arod is looking for a 12 year deal!

Buster Only said that the gap between what Boras wants and what the yankees offered was about 200 million dollars. :o

A-Rod will be 44 years old at the end of a 12 year deal.

Barry Bonds is 43. Maybe he's looking to work with BALCo?

:lol at Peter Gammons. I usually like him, but his Boston bias reared its ugly head in that package.

How'd you feel if somebody interrupted your clinching game with news that they were opting out? He's just venting his frustration.

A-Rod will be 44 years old at the end of a 12 year deal.

They reason they want it to be a 12 year deal is because that is the season he is projected to break the record.

At the rate he's hitting home runs now, it won't take him half that long.

wow that is awesome , you really should writing these perils of hilarity down , haha my daddy thats great

So what?

I'm saying its crazy. But the reason they are looking for the 12 years is because thats when he should break the record.

He should break the HR record in about 6 years. The hits record in about 10 or 11 years.

I still don't understand the point being made here. Ignoring the fact that pinning down the season the record will be broken is extremely difficult, what does the contract status have to do with it? If he's a free agent and he's closing in on the record, another team will sign him.

I think it has to do with the fact that no team would sign him to a 3 year 90 million dollar deal at age 41.

I dont think any team is going to give him a 12 year deal. I think its just Boras trying to drive Arods price up.

WoW...Boras asked the Yankees for 350mil.

350 re-arranged is 305... it's all starting to make sense
