December 3, 200718 yr Rock 'n' rollers Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers will perform during halftime of the Super Bowl on Feb. 3 at the University of Phoenix Stadium. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-s...p&type=lgns :|
December 3, 200718 yr I don't know why they even bother. I'd rather just watch Celebrity Death Match or SNL re-runs.
December 3, 200718 yr I guess Robert Goulet was busy. [too soon?] Too soon. I'm not going to lie though, Prince was bad ass last year.
December 3, 200718 yr Prince was money. Why not get someone similar? Or, I don't know, capitalize on the moment and get Led Zeppelin?
December 3, 200718 yr Author They should do something crazy and get Drop Kick Murphy's for NE and IDK some country act - Carrie Underwood? - for the Cowboys [assuming a NE vs. Dal SB]. There's your target audience, NFL. There's the people that buy DirecTV. There's the people that buy staellite radio. There's the people that will push for the NFL network with their cable providers.
December 3, 200718 yr Author It would be difficult to top Prince's performance from last year. Admittedly I'm in the minority here but I didn't like it. Something about Prince + NFL not adding up. Didn't matter, I was too busy working on the numbers board anyway.

I don't care if you don't care for his music; but what he did in that weather, in the shoes he was wearing, while playing the guitar, was absolutely amazing.
December 3, 200718 yr Prince was not even close to being a cool show IMO And I'm psyched about Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers FWIW

I think that's probably my point. I actually LIKE his music. The performer, however, is whack. Something about a guy in platform shoes and an outfit that could have come from a gay cabaret singer that seems out of place during half time of a sport featuring modern day gladiators. Was he actually live? I thought it was a prerecording. If he was truly live, I will have to award him some extra credit.

Didn't matter, I was too busy working on the numbers board anyway. I'm not a huge fan of his music, though I do enjoy it...I just liked the presentation. I was at the game and thought the show was awesome and much more redeemable than the actual shitshow of a game.
December 3, 200718 yr I'm a big fan of Petty's music, but this is questionable. Prince brought the house down last year, and McCartney was pretty awesome a few years back as well.
December 3, 200718 yr Nice... I love Tom Petty's music And Prince was the sh*t last year... Holy sh*t, flags.
December 3, 200718 yr :| @ tom petty prince's show last year is easily one of my favourite halftime shows of all time...
December 3, 200718 yr Can we get someone that wasn't famous 20 or 30 years ago? It's kinda boring now. And Prince killed it last year. Why not Alicia Keys? That would be badass.

I also think Drop Kick Murphy fans arent old enough to buy the NFL netowrk from their cable providers. We would all complain if Carrie Underwood was playing halftime of the SB.

I like the idea of having a regional, somewhat unknown band that would absolutely rock the house at the super bowl. The Dropkick Murphys would put up an amazing show, and their ties to Mass. would make sense. I mean seriously, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers??? What does he have to do with the Super Bowl and/or sports? Why can't they at least get someone that is somewhat modern? Dropkick Murphys opening with "State of Massachusetts" with Boston owning pro sports right now would kick so much ass.
December 3, 200718 yr What does he have to do with the Super Bowl and/or sports? What does any band? Also, it makes no sense to plan an event around two teams who may not even be in the Super Bowl.

Last time they tried that it was N'Sync, Aerosmith, and Britney Spears, am I right? Not to mention not everyone likes Alicia Keys - people have a harder time agreeing on newer music.
December 4, 200718 yr I think Petty could do a pretty solid job. That being said I am not a fan of half time shows in generally no matter who it is.
