December 5, 200718 yr I remember when the Marlins were sold to Loria and someone by the name of "expos ranchod" would constantly bash Loria for destroying teams and being the cheapest owner in basebal, most of us here told him to shut up and that we were on the right track. Oh the irony.
December 5, 200718 yr So you pulled the "lies" thing out of your ass, like you always do. That act is getting real old, man. Bob, the lies are there. If you are too stupid to see them I really can't help you. That isnt true, if they are there and you see them, it oughtta be pretty simple for you to simply pull them out and show everyone, sooooo, you can help.
December 5, 200718 yr You can debate the trade of Cabrera and Willis, if you know any of the names they got back. I don't. Dave Hyde lost me with this quote, I stopped reading. If you dont f***ing know a couple of those names, you shouldnt be writing any article ever about baseball.

I'd also be willing to bet most people in South Florida can't name a single member of the Marlins now.

He may have well wrote, "I am a complete tool and how in the world did I get a job writing about baseball".

December 5, 200718 yr blah. I'm more interested in seeing Lebatard's article. Never thought I would switch from being a Sun-Sentinel guy to a Herald reader...but crap like this put me over the top. I'm on pins and needles waiting for Berardino's take. Re: LeBatard's article. There's a difference, in my mind, between giving management (i.e. Hill/Beinfest) the benefit of the doubt and giving ownership (i.e. Loria/Samson) the benefit of the doubt. I'm willing, most of the time, to give it to the former, but not the latter. Lebatard also gets his rocks off on taking the complete contrarian view on everything, just because. He also obviously has a friendship with Samson, based on their familiarity and casualness on the radio show, not to mention the Marlins are also clients or sponsors or whatever of the radio station. I think Hyde's points - echoed or confirmed by Jayson Stark on ESPN - that the Marlins get at least $60 million guaranteed before they sell 1 ticket should be shouted from the rooftops. Why national or local media outlets don't investigate this is beyond me, and a shame. Loria has no obligation to field a winning or respectable team, and as a private businessman has the right to maximize his profits as long as it is legal.

It is Dave Hyde's though, and to flat out say, I dont know... anything.... is kind of dumb.

December 5, 200718 yr If you've listened to LeBatard, you would know he has ZERO problem with bashing Samson.
December 5, 200718 yr Beef.. this was alraedy doen but I'll do it again. LeBatard: Wasn't but four years ago that we had no earthly idea who Cabrera and Willis were. In fact, the two best prospects the Marlines just got -- Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller -- are considered more can't-miss great than either Cabrera or Willis ever were. Maybin and Miller are not considered more can't-miss great than Cabrera and as such Lebatard's statement is a lie. I'm also "surprised" the head columnist of the Herald had no clue who Cabrera was four years ago given that he was considered a can't miss prospect from the time he was signed in 1999 at the age of 16 with an enormous signing bonus. LeBatrad: this Marlins management team deserves both your belief and benefit of the doubt. It has been earned -- and not just because the Marlins have won as many championships in the past decade as the Red Sox have in the past eight. Here he credits to the current management team for the '97 championship. As you well know Loria / Samson / Beinfest had nothing to do with the 97 team so this is another lie.

Right, it was done before, but before you were wrong and you also said it was littered with lies, but you can only come up with two, and they arent even legit. He didnt credit them with the 97 championship at all. HOLY f***ING sh*t, HOW DUMB ARE YOU, EVERY TIME I READ THAT SENTENCE AND THEN YOUR EXPLANATION OF WHAT HE IS SAYING, IT MAKES ME FEEL LESS AND LESS LIKE YOU MAY BE A FULLY FUNCTIONING HUMAN BEING. As for them not being more cant miss, well, Id argue that Cabrera was never rated as highly as Maybin in the prospect rankings, take that for whats its worth, but they tend to make those rankings based on what guys are expected to become.
December 5, 200718 yr Who gives a sh*t what Miggy was rated. In any case, just FYI, he was rated 11th in the 2003 rankings.

My point is pretty clear (if you have the ability to read anything besides what you type) I responded to some other moron (see quotes above your post) who was claiming that others are littering their articles with lies and providing evidence that Maybin is indeed considered a can't miss prospect by many. FYI (internet abbreviations are the best, they make you seem so intellient when making a point!), Maybin was rated 6th by Baseball America at age..................... 19. Your point is what?
December 5, 200718 yr Loria has no obligation to field a winning or respectable team, and as a private businessman has the right to maximize his profits as long as it is legal. If I had to guess what Loria is doing isnt legal at all. The $$ that comes in from all those sources is earmarked for the team, it just doesnt go to the team. It has to be ending up somewhere...and once again, Loria cries poor, pretty much any reputable source says thats just wrong, and Loria wont let anyone look at his books.

Beef he's using the '97 World Series to support his argument that we should give the FO the benefit of the doubt. If you claim not to see that, it diminishes your credibility as an intellectually honest analyst. I say this as someone who really likes LeBatard -- both his writing and radio show. In this instance, though, he's overreaching into his bag of rhetoric to try to make his point.

I'm suggesting that the rankings are really pretty irrelevant. The fact that he has a higher ranking than Miggy did means nothing to me, as Miggy is an established player (we know what we're getting out of him) and Maybin is a prospect. As much as you'd like to think otherwise, the fact is that Maybin is an unknown and Miggy is not. Maybin is an elite prospect. True. He's got a lot of potential. True. But comparing his ranking to Miggy's back in the day is just illogical.

But comparing his ranking to Miggy's back in the day is just illogical. At what point did I argue either 1) Id rather have Maybin than Miggs or 2) that an elite prospect is better than an established future HOFer? You won't find that. The poster was claiming that LeBatard was blatantly lying by calling them can't miss prospects even more so than Miggs. Well, those ranking are put together by the people who help decide whether or not others consider prospects can't miss and at the same age they ranked Maybin higher than Miggs. You won't find me arguing that trading one of the best players in baseball for an unknown, no matter how well thought of that unknown may be, is a good idea. Obviously if you have one of the best players in baseball, the rankings of an unknown shouldnt matter, and at no point did I claim otherwise.
December 5, 200718 yr I just thought of something. It's utterly laughable, but considering our payroll is only seven figures at the moment and we're getting around $60M in revenue sharing, it's not entirely impossible. What if this is setting the table for an 11:59 deal for A-Rod? What if, all of a sudden at the winter meetings, Scott Boras and Jeffrey Loria came out and announced a 10 year, $300-million-or-soforth contract to bring Alex Rodriguez to the Florida Marlins? Think about it. He hasn't signed the "framework deal" with the Yankees yet. One can dream. :mischief
