Movie Rentals: every studio is on board. Rentals for 30 days, 24 hrs after starting film, 2.99, through itunes.

Love blog of the event.

Thanks. Apple.com says they have a live webcast, but they don't have a link to it.

Also on Gizmodo, they have some sort of Apple TV update, but it's a software update that can be used by any current Apple TV owner as well. Price down to $229 too.

How did we fit a Mac in here?

10:15 am Move a window by double-tap and move. Rotate a photo by pivoting your index finger around your thumb. Of course, pinch-zoom.

10:14 am Multi-touch trackpad

10:13 am display is LED backlit. iSight is built-in. MacBook-like keyboard, but with an ambient light sensor

10:12 am Magnetic latch, 13.3" widescreen display

MacBook Air starting at $1799. Add $99 for an external SuperDrive. Pre-order now for shipment in two weeks.

And some stuff to make environmentalists happy.

To pricey for me, not spending 1799 for something that doesnt have an internal drive

Not even with 5 hours battery life with WiFi on and active?

So, the gist of it:

1) Time Capsule (which is really just an overpriced wireless external hard drive)

2) New iPhone apps, but no 3G. And you can put iPhone apps on iPod touch. For $20. (people at the convention didn't like this part)

3) Movie rentals through iTunes devices, including HD rentals. ALL STUDIOS INVOLVED! Free iPod versions of movies on bought DVD discs (Family Guy: Blue Harvest is the first).

3a) Apple TV upgrade so it's more disconnected, will show movie rentals, free upgrade to current owners, new low price ($229) for new owners.

4) Macbook air. The biggie (pun intended). 13" screen, only 3/4" thick, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD or 64GB SSD, Wireless-N and Bluetooth. $1799 to start.

I really wish I had bought Apple stock two weeks ago like I planned.

It was a mixed bag, but the good stuff is really, really good. The bad stuff (namely Time Capsule) will never be heard from again.

EDIT: Apple TV is relaunched on the Apple Store. They'll also have a 160GB version now for $329. The 40GB original version is $229.

With HD content now on iTunes, it may finally be worth getting an Apple TV.

Also, never put your eggs in one basket.

I've been following it today as well. The current price doesn't reflect all this stuff just yet. But I can guarantee you in the coming days their stock will soar.

and FWIW, I do diversify, so no problem with my basket...or birds. :mischief

As far as not having an optical drive... you know, it was Apple who first sold computers without floppy drives. People were skeptical about it at the time, but it proved to be good foresight on their part as the world quickly moved towards the CD-ROM. Now, with the much improved availability and speed of internet connections, I suspect Apple is once again forseeing a similar revolution in file transfer management. It makes sense.

Not to go OT here, but most information has been "priced in" before today's announcement.

.....

Also, no user-replaceable battery with this. Huge turnoff there I would think to a majority of users.

I know all public info is reflected in stock price, but I just meant that the 'i phone' issue would die and this would raise the price of the stock sooner than later.

FYI new firmware for the iPhone was rlsed today as well. 1.1.3. If your phone is jailbroken i do not recommend upgrading yet. This new firmware includes:

Google Maps Location Finding

Multi-recipient SMS messaging

Icon reorganization on homescreen

Webclips
