...but, I've seen Hermida turn doubles into triples, and singles into doubles.

Just tonight, when Billy Butler hit a "double" to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.

The runner was on 2nd with 2 outs. He was going to score regardless of it being a single or a double. That ball wasn't catchable. Hermida tried to slide to cut the ball of and hold Butler to a single. In the end, he was stranded in 2nd, so nothing bad came of it.

yet it was still terrible, and he does that consistently.

You said it, "he had no chance."

...and he dove; the fact that Olsen bailed him out, doesn't make his decision any better.

He didn't dive at all. He slid in an attempt to cut it off. It hopped a too high and away for him to get to it.. If he didn't slide, he wouldn't have made it to the ball regardless, and it STILL would have been a double.

I've watched the replay numerous times, and I thought it was a bad play by him...until I saw the replays. As far as I can tell, he had no chance at any play and the ball. Maybe he could have made a spectacular catch if he dove, but that's it.

At this point, you are basically giving him crap for trying.

It looks like that ball was by him anyway. He got close to cuttiing it off as best as he could, he actually made an effot in catching the ball in the air but since it was a texas leaguer it just blooped in front of him, the hop was kinda weird as well. He could have just play it off the hop but i imagined it was trying to keep the run from scoring as Rabb indicates
