June 9, 200818 yr The dude that caught the ball in the white shirt was my buddy Joe, but after they showed the replay, I wonder if he really did catch it or was he faking it :mis2
June 9, 200818 yr I know, I saw that. We will find out later tonight what happened. If he did fake, didnt he know those balls are specially marked?
June 9, 200818 yr Author yea after watching the video again it was him and he did catch it for sure.. Wow I will find out what they are going to give him for it.
June 10, 200818 yr he did not want gave ball to them he going do thing speical with ball what told guys on marlins boardcast let know what do with it i bet he put it on e-bay
June 10, 200818 yr Joe acted like an idiot, and decided to say "I'm not giving my name...if you need more info, you can contact the Marlins organization." And seriously...I hope he wasn't faking it...that would be pretty stupid. If he did catch the ball...what a decoy! I was laughing all night, at the idiots in front of him! :notworthy
June 10, 200818 yr Joe DID catch the ball. He was very smart, and pointed into the scrubble...and ran away. If he's smart, he won't give it up. He was taken down to the equipment manager, who will try to get the ball from him for as little as possible. He knows the drill, though.......he caught Dan Uggla's record breaking HR for most by a 2B. I was sitting next to his buddy that went to the game with him and they mapped out their plan together. Joe WAS going to sit in leftfield..thinking he'd hit it oppo, but his buddy (forgot his name) got him to change his mind.

I hate people sitting in a specific place with the sole purpose of catching these balls to make a buck If it was me I would go to the equipment room and either say '**** the money and let me personally give it to him' or I would ask him to sign it and promise to keep it encased for the rest of my life.

Whatever. Like you would turn down $100,000 just to perform a nice deed to someone worth hundreds of millions of dollars? It's not his ball in the first place, and if the market wants to give you that kind of money for it, no one except someone born with a silver spoon in their mouth and has never worked for anything would turn it down. And :lol at your promise to keep it for the rest of your life encased How is that not just as greedy as taking the money? If Griffey Jr. really wanted the ball he could pay for it.
June 10, 200818 yr Didnt some kids give a ball back to Mcguire worth a boatload of money back in the homerun race.

If Griffey Jr. really wanted the ball he could pay for it. it's called old school. there was a time when these balls actually meant something and wasn't just a way to get rich quick. trust me $100,000 is great, and if it was a Bonds HR, I'd be all over it, but I respect Griffey and what he's done for the game. Karma...goes a long way.

On Saturday night, my buddy and I were discussing what we would do if we caught #600. First of all, unlike what some other folks said, that ball will not fetch $100K. You'd be lucky to get $1,000.00 for it. As for what I would have done? Simple. I would have given it to Griffey without any qualms! The only thing I would have asked for would be an autographed ball, an autographed bat, and a picture of Griffey, Me, and EvenLittler SoFlaFish together sharing the happy occasion. That, to me, would be worth more than $1,000.00 would ever bring.
June 10, 200818 yr http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I agree with you SoFlaFish. It's not worth too that much, so for some autographed stuff, a chance to give it to griffey in person, and a picture would be very worth it in my opinion.

Like Joe, I would want to get away from the commotion and think about it in calmer circumstances, find out what it's worth, and then let the Reds/Griffey know what I was going to do. But it's easy for all of us, who don't have the ball, to criticize. It's Joe's ball, and it seems to me he is wise to take time to think about it before instead of making a quick decision.

All I want is to meet the guy, get a couple of autogrpahs, a picture, and at the VERY most maybe get flown up to Great American Ballpark for a game (because I've never been to Cincy)
June 10, 200818 yr If I caught it, I'd want to meet Griffey - get pictures with him, talk with him, ask for a game jersey and hat, get some auto's and be out. The guy is my favorite baseball player, I wish I was in position to get that ball last night because it would have been an honor.
June 11, 200818 yr He made the right decision in not giving it away. From the Herald: http://www.miamiherald.com/589/story/565650.html WORTH A BUNDLE Experts said the ball could be worth a bundle. ''We feel like Griffey's 600th baseball at auction would bring, conservatively, $50,000 to $100,000,'' said David Kohler, president and chief executive officer of SCP Auctions, which has sold off several of the milestone blasts hit by baseball's all-time home run king, Barry Bonds. The highest-priced home run baseball ever sold at auction, $3 million, was the 70th home run ball hit by Mark McGwire in 1998. Bonds' 756th home run ball, which broke Hank Aaron's record, went for $752,467 at auction.
