August 14, 200817 yr Since it was brought up before, the idea of plugging someone else into the #2 spot, I got to thinking - why not put in Baker? I realize that it's rather abnormal to put a catcher there, but for the same reasons people (I think) had argued Hermida should be there, I'd say it should be Baker. Assuming his production isn't a fluke or just a hot streak, the guy has the second highest OBP on the team (behind Hanley) and does it by taking a lot of pitches. That should mean a lot of opportunities to move Hanley to 2B, either by stealing or by Baker getting a hit or walking. Honestly, is there any reason not to bat Baker second besides him being the catcher or thinking that his production will drop off?
August 14, 200817 yr i agree even though i will probably the only one that will agree with you ppl say because he is a cather.. he shouldnt be in the 2hole does that even sound like it makes sence... i agree with you but i dont think fredi would do it. FRedi should put hermida in the 6th or 7th hole i think he'll do better there
August 14, 200817 yr Since we're going there...why see if you can ignite the offense by reuniting Hanley and Dan at the top of the lineup. Worked once, might again. Just a passing thought.
August 14, 200817 yr looks like fredi took my advice lol lineup today Hanley Ramirez SS; Luis Gonzalez LF; Jorge Cantu 3B; Mike Jacobs 1B; Dan Uggla 2B; Jeremy Hermida RF; John Baker C; Alfredo Amezaga CF; Scott Olsen P.
August 14, 200817 yr I would like to see Uggla back up there, but he has been producing lately. Also, when Gonzalez is in the lineup I like Hanley, Luis, and Cantu in a row. I think they are all good at making contact. Also, with Jacobs producing power lately you can't complain at all about him at the 4 spot. So I guess Dan fits into the 5 spot.

Usually Amezaga bats higher in the order, but Gonzo is also playing today. As for Baker, I dont think he has had enough playing time to prove he is worthy of the #2 spot.
August 14, 200817 yr thats a really good idea. he has a great eye, takes pitches, walks a good amount, and he always does something whens at the plate. let him and hermida swith spots for a couple games and see what happens.

You have a very good point here, Baker does work the count a lot and, i don't know if it is as of late but he is hitting well, i think he could be a very good fit for the second spot in the lineup.
August 14, 200817 yr Author Just thought I'd throw into the discussion as well, how differently would Baker be pitched to in front of Cantu as opposed to in front of the pitcher?
August 14, 200817 yr Just thought I'd throw into the discussion as well, how differently would Baker be pitched to in front of Cantu as opposed to in front of the pitcher? Well, his OBP would take a dive, because homie walks a ton.
