Very few of the staffers are calling back, but (anonymously) are talking about how they feel. "It was kind of pathetic, to tell you the truth." "As painful as it will be for him, he needs to come clean. There's an overwhelming view that he's still lying." One did call back and say this: "I don't want you to call me again." It would appear he now has no political future. Whether the truth about paternity ever comes or not, the National Enquirer has won the war.
August 26, 200817 yr Well, he deserves their scorn. It's bad enough to cheat on your wife, but one that could have died of cancer? That's just low. My g/f was a huge Edwards supporter, but now she has lost all respect for him.

August 26, 200817 yr I heard him in some interview about it, he talked about how being a national figure feeds the ego and how you feel you can do just about anything.... It just sounds so trite coming from him when he's always been this heart-on-the-sleeve, humble/moral/small-town ethics kind of politician. I've always had a wierd feeling about him... like I was listening to a televangelist or something. The astounding thing is that these guys never seem to think it'll catch up to them eventually. But anyway, yeah you can close the book on his political career.

Maybe the Democratic Party is tired of this sh*t. In case you didn't notice, this article talks about him being shunned by party officials and former staffers, not by voters. Marion Berry and Raul Martinez were seen as "racial injustice", which is a common Democratic theme. Ted Kennedy was merely covered up at a time when it could still easily be covered up. John Edwards is a completely different animal. The people are tired of it, and from what it looks like, the Democrats are tired of it too.

Unlike Barry, Martinez, and Kennedy, Edwards didn't commit a crime. People will forget about this sooner than most people think. Lucky for Edwards, he is only 55 years old, so he still has a long road ahead of him if he wants to pursue his career in politics.
August 26, 200817 yr I'm a huge Bret Easton Ellis fan and I find it absolutely hilarious that the girl he was cheating with has a character based off of her in a couple of Ellis's book...like most characters in his books she is a vapid, bitchy coke head. That's my favorite part of all this. BTW: his next book is a sequel to his first book, Less Than Zero with supposedly some of the characters now involved with politics. I can only hope this works it way into the book.
