Carlos Martinez

did well at AAA.....expect to see him up??

I've been hoping they would call him up since he's on the 40-man but he may be getting punished for his bad attitude. I think they give him a good look for the pen next year though, although I don't know his contract status.

I hope he gets another shot, you gotta feel for that guy. Came out of nowhere and looked like a future mainstay in the bullpen with outstanding stuff, only to get injured like that and not get another shot since...sucks.

He is looking good so far too in the PCL.

He has attitude problems.

Care to elaborate?

He's been known to be a moper, not exactly be a good teammate, and has gotten into his pitching coach's face once or twice previously.

$100 arm, .10 head

There was also the business about not getting his visa in time for ST plus he's starting to look like Livan Hernandez and CC Sabathia, as in fat.

A .95 WHIP in Albuquerque...(all be it a small sample size of 14.1 innings), is pretty impressive.

I could care less about attitude problems. If you're talented, you're talented, and Martinez has the stuff.

Many players in the big leagues have an "attitude problem." It's irrelevant, if you're capable of performing.

You don't talk back to your coaches and the people who decide whether to promote you are not. Gotta grow up some time.

Godfather u really like to make fun of me don't u? w/e cool by me

It's about making a statement, and the reason "bad attitude" guys oftenly often change teams.

Ths expecially comes true if you're replaceable like Carlos is. If you're dealing with him, would you rather get production out of him, or would you rather ship him off and get the same production out of somebody who doesn't give lip?

I think you are the T-1000 sent from the future in order to destroy me...

Yeah, Barry Bonds never talked back to Jim Leyland when he was younger.

Jose Reyes hasn't thrown temper tantrums during games.

Jimmy Rollins hasn't disrespected his manager or his teammates, by arriving late at a ballgame.

Remember when Miguel Cabrera was here, and was benched as well, for disrespecting team rules? Didn't stop McKeon from putting him in, the next day.

What do they have in common? Talent.

If Carlos Martinez is talented enough to perform now, and for this team's future, he'll get a callup.

Speaking of disrespect, our star player, Hanley Ramirez was considered a bit of a headcase when we acquired him for Josh Beckett. I'm sure the Marlins have no problem with the "headcase" now, and had no problems with the "headcase" then, knowing Hanley was Boston's best prospect.

Talent outweighs attitude problems.

:goodpost

Again, it's about making a statement.

Benching Cabs showed that statement.

If you're replaceable, there's no reason to deal with it at all, so the statement is made to seriously shut up or you won't get any chance.

I don't think it'd have much to do with attitude at all.

He did show something in Albuquerque...but again, only 14.1 innings.

He also pitched in Carolina this year (a sample of 38.1 innings), and he posted a 4.70 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP, with less than a K, per inning. Maybe that also has something to do with him not getting the callup. Inconsistency.
