September 10, 200818 yr So whats the general opinion on where Hanley will bat next year? 1st or 3rd? Im guessing if he bats 3rd then Maybin has the tools to hit leadoff He needs to bat third. His main problem with RISP this year is not getting anything to hit. My reasoning for this is his OBP. Sure, he's only hitting .231 with RISP, but his OBP is still .378 in that situation. Put someone worth a damn behind him and watch his BA with RISP rise. where would you put cantu in the lineup

He was signed because we needed someone to fill in that hole though. Gaby and Dallas will most likely be the 1st/3rd combo.

September 10, 200818 yr i'm pretty sure that jacobs is going to be traded but let's assume he stays and maybin is ready for the major leagues. i just hope the marlins don't rush him and he turns out to be corey patterson. this is what i would make the lineup if people want hanley to bat 3rd. Maybin Baker Hanley Jacobs Cantu Uggla Hermida Ross

Both of them are good hitters and Gaby is good defensively. i'm pretty sure that jacobs is going to be traded but let's assume he stays and maybin is ready for the major leagues. i just hope the marlins don't rush him and he turns out to be corey patterson. this is what i would make the lineup if people want hanley to bat 3rd. September 10, 200818 yr jacobs, ross, and willingham are the only ones i think could get traded. but i think ross will most likely stay for insurance in case maybin isn't ready EDIT: oh and olsen i think will get traded too.

I think it will be at least Jacobs, Hammer, and Olsen, probably much more though.
September 10, 200818 yr Jorge Cantu is not having a great season by any degree. He has been very clutch though for most of the season.
September 10, 200818 yr Jorge Cantu is not having a great season by any degree. He has been very clutch though for most of the season. yeah and his average was in the .280's until he went on a slump.
September 10, 200818 yr Jorge Cantu is not having a great season by any degree. Another reason why people covet stats too much, the stats say that Cantu has been a mediocre player this year, yet the people who watch the marlins relize that Cantu has been the biggest difference maker on this team

Which is what anyone's eyes and gut should say as well.

Which is what anyone's eyes and gut should say as well. very true, but he was not the only one to have a bad 2nd half, nearly every hitter on this team has been outright terrible in the 2nd half. I'm saying that people like Rambo look at his SEASON stats and say he has had a horrible SEASON, most people don't look at 1st and 2nd half, they see an entire season. That is the major misconception, stats are very misleading
September 10, 200818 yr There are contradictory terms used in that argument. Over-swinging would mean that he's trying too hard. How is trying too hard being complacent? Good point. It's either one or the other. He's either trying too hard, or not enough. Either way, he needs to get his game back on path. Well I hope what I am about to say isnt true but who knows? The hawk says he is over-swinging in the context of RISP. But he also says that he isnt hungry in other facets of the game. Sounds to me like he might be starting to become a selfish player a bit. He goes up and tries to club the ball a thousand miles to pad his stats w/ RISP but is unwilling to give it his all in other situations. Like I said: I hope it isnt true but the only one who really knows aint gonna admit it.
September 10, 200818 yr Jorge Cantu is not having a great season by any degree. He has been very clutch though for most of the season. Clutches are in cars, not in baseballs. This is like saying, He has been very radiator though for most of the season. He has been very muffler though for most of the season. These comments make no sense. Clutch and baseball is an intangible-fiction. Let's stop the nonsense arguments! -- But seriously, Cantu has been great doing one thing - being a cheap stopgap at 3B until we find a longterm option. That's it. He hasn't embarrassed us like Abercrombie, E. Reed, Borchard, De Aza, Rabelo, Treanor, Hoover, and all those other jerks have over the last 2 years in CF and C. I am fully impressed Cantu was able to do this, but saying he's having a good season, or a difference maker, production wise is absurd. Don't let the dingers fool you. He'll have a mid 700 OPS by the end of the year. Incredibly pedestrian and easily replaceable. Here's to a Gaby/McDallas corner IF, bringing in a flyer FA like Ensberg/Aurilla/trade/whatever, trading Cantu and Jacobs for stuff, and saving the monies so we can retain better chances of long term options, i.e. Hermida, Uggla, and pitching.

That's what I said in the first place...I was just trying to make a point, but let me rephrase it. Cantu has been a solid hitter with runners in scoring position. Happy?

Cantu's line with RISP: .253/.329/.349/.678 More correctly: Cantu has had several late game heroics which then make people overstate his work as a whole.

Hell, his only truly great "clutch stat" is 2 outs with RISP: .323/.432/.500/.932. He's about average when Late and Close and in a tie game.
September 11, 200818 yr I would like Hanley hitting 1st b/c he's the best leadoff hitter in the game.
September 11, 200818 yr I would like Hanley hitting 1st b/c he's the best leadoff hitter in the game. Pujols would be the best leadoff hitter if he was hitting leadoff. He's way too good a hitter to waste in the 1 spot.

He's way too good a hitter to waste in the 1 spot. The problem is...the Marlins don't really have a leadoff hitter, with the exception of Hanley Ramirez. If you want to put Maybin there fine...but I'd like to see Maybin, at least, earn that spot by hitting the ball well, on a consistent basis, in Spring Training next year.
September 11, 200818 yr Yes, he?s had a good year by baseball standards. But compared to what he?s capable of and what people make him out to be, he has not been that this year. Well, I made him out to be the best overall player in baseball before the year, and guess what. He delivered, whether you realize it or not. The point is, he is producing more than any player in baseball this year. What more do you want? You want him to be better than the best overall player in baseball, being himself? That's what he is capable of? Right. Why don't you bitch about Hermida laying a duck, Uggla ceasing hitting, the catching problems pre-Baker when we always we had him in AAA, and a myriad of other problems. This is idiotic Lou, Hanley actually does not take a lead worth a sh*t. That has also been pointed out many times. I don't think it's that he refuses to; he just doesn't happen to take a big lead. He's a full three feet shorter off first base on every lead than nearly every other baserunner. He does not like having to dive back to first on his shoulder, so he takes a very short lead. In addition, he's often not in an athletic position and ready to run. Out by a foot and a half on a steal attempt when you were three feet short in your lead means you should have had that bag stolen. And your point? No offense, but seriously. Who cares. SB do relatively nothing to your overall run production, and making a lame, it effects the pitchers psyche argument, is a big old fat intangible sandwich and those arguments never hold their water. You people will whine about anything. Jesus christ. I never would have thought I'd have to defend HANLEY RAMIREZ'S PRODUCTION to people on this board. You people are insane. It sucks we don't have a gold glove 1.000 OPS SS that rescues babies as a firefighter on off days! Dude is a bum because he only hits .925 and has below average D, and does it frowning and not donating to charity. uh. I have a headache. My point is he doesn't steal bases as well as he should. Open your f***ing eyes and stop ignoring valid points just because you don't like them.
September 11, 200818 yr Well, we hit another problem there. If he was batting 3rd, he would have Jacobs or Uggla behind him. Both of which are huge power threats. That would cover him. Second off, Batting Average is a terrible way to measure just about anywhere. I'm pretty sure that BA is actually extremely valuable with RISP. I don't see how OBP could be a good measure, seeing as walking can bring in one run in at the most and only with the bases loader, where most hits bring in two. And while slugging is nice, a player who gets a lot of hits is better than a player that gets fewer but bigger hits because he is sending more runners home.
