September 29, 200817 yr :lol hold your horses people The team may look a bit different next season and some players have peaked already. not to mention injuries that can ruin anyones season I wait till all star break next yr to say were the team "to beat"
September 29, 200817 yr Along with Cody starting in either LF/RF. Would love to have Gonzo and Helms back!! I know noone gives them credit but they have a part in what the Marlins did this season.. According to what i read/heard, Helms would get on guys who would not run, practice hard etc! Thats the kind of leader we need! Helms is 100% gone. The Marlins won't pick up his enormous option to be a bench player, and that means they cannot resign him until May 1st. He will easily find work on someone's bench during the offseason. I didn't know about that May 1st thing. Bah. He would have been great on our bench. I'd rather G. Sanchez and McPherson take over Jacobs and Helms spots. vs RHP 1B - Cantu/G. Sanchez 3B - McPherson vs LHP 1B - G. Sanchez 3B - Cantu That is money. That should be around 550 PA for Cantu, 475 PA for McPherson, and 350 PA for G. Sanchez.

September 29, 200817 yr Oh yeah, I would also like Cody in right, I believe the FO has finally given up on Hermida, and will probably look for a LF'er via trade, and if they can't, will put Raynor there or more likely keep Willingham for another year There is no reason to give up on Hermida! As bad of a season that Hermida had and with Fredi benching him the last portion of the season he still hit close to 20 homers. If Hermida cuts down on his Ks he will be an asset to the lineup

I thought the May 1st rules and corresponding December/January deadlines were eliminated when they re-did the last labor agreement after 2006. Besides, I think under the old May 1st rules you had until Dec 7th to re-sign your own free agent if you didn't offer him arbitration, and until January 6th if you did (and they declined). Even under the old rules, if I understood them correctly, we'd have had until Dec 7th to re-sign Helms after we exercised the buyout and didn't offer him arbitration.

The Sun-Sentinel did say the Marlins will be talking to Wes Helms and Arthur Rhodes about coming back next year first this off-season. I don't see how the Marlins can swing that, because I'm pretty sure MLB by laws say if you decline a player option, or you decline arbitration, etc, that player is ineligible to resign with your organization until May 1st. That is a tough sell for Helms. As for Rhodes, they can keep him if Loria approves a $38-40 million payroll. Which would still rank as dead last in baseball. God, this team would be so good if he lets Beinfest play with $40 million.
