October 18, 200817 yr Why is Hanley's move to 3B inevitable? Because he is going to get bigger YES...I've been saying this for some time now. Someone finally agreed. Hanley Ramirez will not finish his career as a shortstop. Not that this move has to be done so soon...but when it's all said and done in Hanley's career...he won't finish as a SS. Neither did Ripken or A-Rod... it's not really a big deal, we'll get a couple 3B years from Hanley down the road, but it's really not much of a current thought

That's less likely IMO, remember Hanley gives like ultimate production from the SS position with average defense this year... average 3B is > average SS production... so: Hanley at 3B + Average SS < Hanley at SS + Average 3B So, with that in mind, even getting an above average 3B, like through trading Uggla or the draft or something, would be pretty awesome in terms of net infield production

Oh, I'm not contending that at all... I mean, Hanley could OPS higher than most DH's too, I'm sure, all I'm saying is that in terms of total production, you'll get more 99/100 times with Hanley at SS

I mean, Hanley could OPS higher than most DH's too, I'm sure, all I'm saying is that in terms of total production, you'll get more 99/100 times with Hanley at SS No doubt, though a guy like Furcal brings an element we are unlikely to get at 1B or 3B (the 'open' slots at first glance) and that is a guy for the top of the order with good OBP skills, impact speed and an overal defense upgrade. Putting Hanely somewhere in the 2-4 range would take better advantage of his talent, etx. I happen to think that: SS: Furcal (OBP) C: Baker (Contact) 3B: Ramirez (Studliness) Would be pretty nice up front, and then the other 5 spots can be filled in an almost random order by the five #5 hitters this team could easily have (Hermida, Uggla, Cantu, Maybin, Ross)
October 18, 200817 yr Hanley should not move from SS. He is an above average defender, and is only going to get better. There is no reason to even think about this.
October 19, 200817 yr Hanley should not move from SS. He is an above average defender, and is only going to get better. There is no reason to even think about this. That depends upon your goal. If you goal is to use the opening at 3B to improve the team's speed, defense and OBP skills, then you can look at both SS and 3B

Hanley might be a 3B in the future but that would probably be in his mid to late 30's unless he has some serious injuries

If you feel differently, I'm sure most people on this board would gladly take your money in a bet
October 23, 200817 yr Author Derrek Lee available? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3997975.story The Cubs would have to trade Derrek Lee if they wanted to sign Teixeira, and Lee has a no-trade clause. Dealing Lee is a possibility if he waives his no-trade clause because Micah Hoffpauir is available to play first. Hoffpauir hit .355 against right-handers. It says their main priority is left-handed hitting....Jacobs/Hermida anyone? I'm sure they would also be interested in either Olsen or Uggla as well.
October 23, 200817 yr The Cubs would not be interested in either Jacobs or Hermida. They want a proven left hander like Tex (who I think is good but overrated). The Cubs have more problems than they think, beginning with Soriano's massive contract clogging up their options for years to come as the guys steadily declines in production each year.
