NL MVP is Albert Pujols!

Featured Replies

Good for him. I was (not-so)-secretly holding out for CC, but he was the best hitter in the league, whether or not that's what the MVP award is for.

Yea, i thought CC deserved it to. I'm just happy Howard didn't win it.

I've been saying for a while that i expected to see Pujols win the award, and still believe CC deserved the award. It's pretty sad that CC ended in 6th place, f*cken writers

congrats albert, he has always been one of my personal favorite players, hope to see him in a marlins uni someday lol :whistle

Pitchers shouldn't win MVP awards. They have their own version of it (Cy Young)

Disagree based on language regarding the awards...

The Most Valuable Player Award (commonly known as the MVP award) is an annual award given to one outstanding player in each league of Major League Baseball.

The Cy Young Award is an honor given annually in baseball to the best pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB), one each for the American and National leagues.

You can be the best pitcher AND the most valuable player... or one, or the other... Hitters also have the Hank Aaron award... moot argument

actually, it kinda is the Most Valuable Player. Many people disagree on the criteria. It should go to the player that had the biggest impact on its team. You can make that argument for Pujols, but you can make just as good an argument for CC

The Hank Aaron award is not on the same level. People remember MVPs and Cy Youngs, but how many people actually remember Hank Aaron awards? Most of the time the award goes unnoticed. MVP and Cy Youngs may not have the same meaning, but their value is basically one in the same.

Just because people don't know about the Hank Aaron award, doesn't make it less valuable

No, you are thinking of the Hank Aaron Award, which is "awarded to the top hitter in each league". What we are talking about is the Most Valuable Player Award, which is given to the player who "should prove himself as the most important and useful player to his club and to the league at large in point of deportment and value of services rendered".

Don't worry, this is a mistake that happens all the time.

That's all subject to interpretation and for all intents and purposes... immaterial... the awards serve their purposes. You may feel that the CY and MVP are essentially the same, but for pitchers and hitters, respectively... but in absolutely no way, shape or form do they. Pitchers have won the MVP before and I believe that will prevent the "rule" (or lack thereof) from being re-written.

Also, just because the average person doesn't remember the Hank Aaron Award... doesn't mean that it's not as valuable, because it follows basically the same criteria.

It's also worth noting that Hanley was 11th in voting with 16 votes worth 55 points, the best ones being a couple 4th place votes.

Didnt Albert Pujols say that if a player didnt make the playoffs, he doesn't deserve to win the MVP award? Yea, wonder how he feels about that now.

I'd think he would feel the same. Pujols is a competitor, and his goal every year is to win the World Series. If his tema can't even make the playoffs, he probably feels that this has been a failed season. Sure inside he is happy to get this award for his indivdual success, but in reality he is very frustrated with the way his team has played, and still feels that he doesn't deserve the award, because he didn't even do enough to get his team in the playoffs, so how could he possibly be the most valuable player in the league?

The exact quote was "I see it this way: Someone who doesn't take his team to the playoffs doesn't deserve to win the MVP".

He was wrong though.
