Q: Which teams besides Florida will be in the market for Pudge Rodriguez? I loved him as a Ranger and hated the bad PR he had after last season. He finished last year very strong, too.

A: With a World Series title and an NLCS MVP award to his credit, there is little doubt that Pudge is in far better position going into this off-season than he was last off-season, when he was coming off three injury-marred seasons. While there could be a handful of suitors for his services ? the Orioles, Cubs, Mets and Padres come to mind ? I think his first choice is to remain with the Marlins, and I think that deal can get done.

The big obstacle, of course, is the terms of a potential deal. If it?s something in the three-year, $25-30-million range, the Marlins should be able to keep him. But if Pudge and new agent Scott Boras insist upon something in the five-year, $50-million range, that is out of the Marlins? range. I?m not sure anybody else will go that high either, so my guess is he?ll stay put in his hometown of Miami.

 

I really really hope Pudge stays.

Does nobody other than me disagree with this? That's a bargain. We paid him 10 mil this year, and he was worth it. Will his play drop off in three years? Maybe, but we still should get at least two good seasons out of him.

Maybe, but we still should get at least two good seasons out of him. yea, i already went back on my stance there. he's worth it simply b/c of the impression it gives to the fans (e.g. new fans) from management.

 

play-wise, we are much better off paying castro $450k (that is if he's not in jail) than we are paying pudge $9M. with that money, we could keep someone else or sign somebody else.

9-10 mil is alot to ask for one player. But there is one thing you have to consider: Catching is the hardest position to play in the field. No question. Anyone who is pretty good at defense is good in my book. Offensive numbers from a catcher are rare as well, but they are a welcome plus. Pudge does the defense almost flawless and is one of the better hitters in the game. A catcher this good is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. There is maybe one every couple of generations. Marlins need to take advantage.

There is no doubt that his best years are behind him.

 

He had a below his average year on 2003. But a monster post season.

 

I think he just matches great with our team. Young pitching certandly benefited from the veteran and one of the best ever catchers in the game.

Castro is not that much younger than Pudge

 

And Pudge I think showed he was healthy this season.

If we trade Pudge we are in big trouble. We will lose our number 3 hitter that got us to the World Series and lead this team. He was awesome, after coming back from injuries everyone expected him to do bad! Loria Needs to sign him quick because there are other teams waiting for him....
