Posted January 6, 200916 yr It was already posted in the "Uh-oh Pavano" thread in the Marlins forum, but I felt it deserved its own thread here on the MLB forum Indians signed RHP Carl Pavano, who had been with the Yankees, to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. The Denver Post reports that Pavano can make an additional $5.3 million in incentives that begin to kick in with 18 starts and 130 innings pitched. Pavano figures to join Cliff Lee, Fausto Carmona and Anthony Reyes in Cleveland's rotation. That would leave one spot, with Scott Lewis and Aaron Laffey favored over Jeremy Sowers and Zach Jackson. --Rotoworld
January 7, 200916 yr I like the part about the incentives, I hope he earns everyone of them! He was a good guy while here and better yet took all that Yankee money and didn't do crap for them :thumbup Good Luck Carl
January 7, 200916 yr I can't say that I'm not disappointed that he didn't come back to Florida, as I was a fan of his when he was with the team, but I still wish him the best and hope earns those incentives.
January 7, 200916 yr Way too much for him. For the Marlins, being all cash-constricted, yeah, but its not generally a bad contract at all. Very good upside if it works out, and its only 1 year so it cant come back and bite them in the ass.

Which would be why I pointed that out...
January 8, 200916 yr 1.5 is nothing really, I mean if he makes 10 starts it will be worth the money. Not if he loses them. Your right though 1.5 isn't much but in Loria dollars its 10.5 mill.
January 8, 200916 yr Pavano's performance-based incentives don't even begin to kick in until he makes 18 starts. He gets $100,000 each for reaching 18, 20 and 22 starts, $200,000 each for reaching 24, 26 and 28 starts, $250,000 for 30 starts, $300,000 for 32 starts, $350,000 each for 33 and 34 starts and $400,000 for 35 starts. Pavano also gets $100,000 each for reaching 130, 140 and 150 innings pitched, $150,000 each for 160 and 170 innings, $200,000 for 180, $250,000 for 190, $250,000 for 200, $300,000 for 215, $400,000 for 225 and $500,000 for 235.
