As my morning ritual, I am watching Channel 4 News. Then Jim Berry comes on talking about Pudge, and of course I pay attention. Jim was talking about how Pudge signed for FA and he was saying, "Not to worry, Pudge says his heart is with the Men in Teal." I am like, "Gee.....thanks, Jim for keeping my hopes up."

 

As much as I want Pudge to stay, I keep having a feeling he's gonna go. I am just trying to keep the faith over here.

Yea, I told my friends at youth group to keep praying.

 

I mean, it's not that I want to see Pudge stay just b/c he's my fave Marlin. I want him to stay b/c after what I have seen, he's a true athlete and he plays b/c he loves the game. Not b/c of the money or for popularity. He's just doing his thing. He turned this team around. Look at what he did with the pitching staff. This guy has done wonders!! I see him doing a lot more if he stays with us.

I do not think that he is only PR like many in this board say. I really think he made a big difference with the pitchers and for that matter many look up to him. This guy not only is the greatest catcher of our era, but he has the batting power and the defense moves we really need on this team. However, I do not want him to take a pay cut; that would be totally selfish to ask of him. The man is in his 30's which in baseball years makes him an old man (go figure) and is probable that this would be his last chance at getting a good deal to secure his retirement.

 

I still think we would be crazy to let him go, but we are not the Yankees and we cannot afford a 50M deal for 5 years... Let's just see how this turns out... I hope is just as good for us as it is for Pudge :confused

I heard that he was willing to take a pay cut. ::shrug:: We'll see what happens.....but if Jim (even though I think Jim rocks) jinxes this I am kicking his butt!

If the deal lingers around 3yrs 25-30 million I'm sure he will be signed...if not he's a Yankee/Oriole/Dodger.

Being nothing if not pragmatic, with a Mar 15 drop dead date on going forward with a new stadium, the Marlins' cannot afford (politically and from a PR standpoint) to let Pudge go elsewhere in 2004. He knows that, his agent knows that and the Marlins do as well.

I also think Pudge will be gone. Baltimore or San Diego are going to be all over Pudge, and you have to believe they're going to be giving out the big bucks, something we won't be doing.

 

IMO, Pudge leaving gives us more options. We'd be able to keep the like of Luis, and a few others, and we have a decent replacement with tons of potential in Ramon.

I agree. They can't lose Pudge now without suffering a huge backlash. IMO, its the equivelent of trading Lowell mid-season.

I say keep Lowell - 3 yrs $24MM - hometown boy makes good - younger & a little cheaper. Sign him quick as sign of good faith for stadium effort.

I like Lowell too... But letting Pudge go is like letting someone cut your leg so you can keep your arms.... I just don't want to be in the shoes of Admin Beinfest... :unsure :
