If the this reporter is correct looks like the stadium agreement passes only 8 to 5 and we don't get a stadium . At this point IF this doesnt happen I would not blame the Marlins if they packed up and left town or worse for us(the fans) we remain in limbo with relocation as a constant threat and teams with 20 million dollar payrolls that dont even bother keep any players when they become arbitration eligible.

Samson stated today in the VIP Season Ticket Holder press conference that this is the FINAL vote for the Stadium... If it fails the Marlins will see other options like relocation

They deserve to if it fails.

I would like to think if the worst happens they would still remain in Florida but I doubt it .Hopefully we get the votes on Friday.

This article is very worrisome. Joe Martinez is the key vote and he knows it. Hopefully he is only posturing to get attention.

He needs to be contacted by as many voters as possible. Everyone in my family has sent their own e-mail.

However, even if the vote fails, why can't they go back and negotiate further? I doubt that they will "pick up and go" if the vote does not go in their favor. To much time and effort has been spent to get this close ....to quit now. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the agreement is changed between now and Friday to accommodate a needed vote.

yup.

but this is just negative propaganda as usual by the herald. i think we will get all the votes needed on friday. there is just too much at stake...plus its like you say, too much time and affort has been spent on this, on all sides. this will happen...we will get our ballpark.

still, i encourage people to keep bombarding the commisioners with emails and phone calls in support of the stadium. it may turn out to make a difference at the end.

People are talking a lot about "shovel-ready projects". Public works projects that will create new jobs right now.

They need to be made to understand that THIS is your shovel-ready project. This will create jobs right now.

I weep for Miami if they don't pass this. It will be the coup de grace for a team that has tried to overcome so much.

Like I said earlier, we cant do much, but we can go and show some support.

please please please get out boys the new stadium they need to survive

Not even. They will be in the AlamoDome in 2011 awaiting a new stadium in San Antonio.

san antonio already said they will not fund a stadium...and that was 3 years ago, just imagine today, in this economy.

If that was the case, then why did they even bother going after the Marlins? Who were they expecting to build the stadium? Jeffrey Loria sure as f*** wasn't going to build it for them.

All going to the BCC meeting, remember three words: shovel-ready project. This project will bring jobs to Miami. Thousands for the construction, right now. And hundreds in the long term for operation. That is worth any investment.

(The "stimulus bill" mentions something about money for "shovel-ready projects". Perhaps someone could explain that a bit more?)

the whole thing was publicity stunt...for this same reason, to get miami to build it for them. well, it sure worked didnt it? "if we dont get a stadium we will relocate". im glad it did.

san antonio CANNOT afford 500 million for a stadium. have you ever been to san antonio??? i have. lol. cmon man. not even vegas could afford a new stadium with todays economy.

the only reason why tax dollars are paying for it here is because of tourism. think san antonio has as much tourism as miami? or do you think the people of san anotonio will be cool with property taxes going towards a stadium??? lol...cmon.

Actually, yes. They used a half-cent sales tax increase to build the Alamodome. It was finished in 1993. Its bonds were paid off by 1994.

Unlike here in Florida, where we generally get f***ed around with tax and toll schemes (with few exceptions, such as Jax paying off its toll roads with a sales tax option, and Orange County's sales tax option to build schools), the people in San Antonio have a better history with that. If they are asked to pay a sales tax increase to pay for a new venue, they will jump at it.

Think Ok city would bid for the team? Just throwing it out there

that was 1993. its 2009 and we are in a financial catastrophe....buddy, it wont happen. forget about san antonio. its do or die for the marlins franchise here.

anyways, this issue is not really worth discussing any further. the MIAMI marlins are going to stay in south florida. we will get our stadium. the herald is full of sh*t, as usual...promoting negative propaganda.

me and you will talk friday afternoon.

Think Ok city would bid for the team? Just throwing it out there

That cultureless metro only has 1.1 million people and an NBA team (don't get me started on that one). OKC is just one big suburb, and MLB cities need to have strong urban cores and people close to a stadium. Get it done here.

Enough with the relocation talk. Can we just get through Friday first? This vote can, and I pray will, go in the Marlins favor. There is always lots of negative talk leading into these votes, and every single time, they have ended up passing. Why? Despite all the grandstanding of some commissioners, this a good deal for all involved. These people (the Marlins, City, and County) have been working at this for a decade now. They have all spent a great deal of time and money to get to this point. I refuse to believe that they would get this far and not finish the job.

Here's a plan - kidnap the family of whoever has the key vote and only release them if the stadium vote is approved.

Hey, its worth a shot....

That's the quickest way to get a unanimous no.

Providing they dont find out they are actually being hidden in Billy the Marlin mascot costumes :whistle

What has to be the results in order for us to get the stadium? Isnt an 8 to 5 vote a winning count? Please, someone explain.

We need 9 yes votes because it has to be a two-thirds majority. Simply majorities don't work for this one.
