May 7, 200917 yr Looking at how Dan Meyer has pitched recently and that he was a former starter, I tend to agree with what Rich and Tommy mentioned about using Dan Meyer as our 5th starter for now until Andrew Miller gets back and call up someone like John Koronka or Aaron Thompson as a short replacement for Meyer in the pen. Thoughts??
May 7, 200917 yr I'd rather not. His arm is used to going an inning or two, not five or six. You run the risk of throwing his arm out of whack when you flip flop him between the bullpen and the rotation.
May 7, 200917 yr Author Don't like it just because we'd have no LOOGY in the pen. How bout Badenhop given a start?

May 7, 200917 yr Author Don't like it just because we'd have no LOOGY in the pen. How bout Badenhop given a start? Then we have an all-righty rotation Who cares if we have an all righty rotation. Someone's gotta replace Taylor. Thompson, maybe?

May 7, 200917 yr Don't like it just because we'd have no LOOGY in the pen. How bout Badenhop given a start? Then we have an all-righty rotation Who cares? Fredi. It's the reason he gave the job to Taylor in the first place. He wanted to avoid an all-righty rotation because he likes to mix it up a little bit.
May 7, 200917 yr This should be a non-issue considering Miller should be ready to be slotted in after starting in Jupiter this morning.
May 7, 200917 yr Author This should be a non-issue considering Miller should be ready to be slotted in after starting in Jupiter this morning. He's actually gonna start in a AA game before he comes back.

I'm willing to bet Beinfest made that decision, not Fredi.

For some reason I missed that note when I read through the article on the main site. In that case, I could see us going with Hopper for just one start.

I think they also said because of the off day Monday, we have no need for fifth starter until after Miller's second rehab start. Of course, if he gets shelled in the minors, then we might be in trouble.
May 7, 200917 yr I don't think Meyer is a bad suggestion. How come they just called up some right handed reliever? Martinez, I believe his name is?
May 7, 200917 yr I don't think Meyer is a bad suggestion. How come they just called up some right handed reliever? Martinez, I believe his name is? Because Miller we make the next start, but that's not going to be for awhile since he's going to make another rehab start (An off day means that we don't need another fill in starter, we can go with a 4 man rotation). Calling down Taylor and calling up Martinez allows us to have an extra arm in the bullpen until Miller's next start.
May 7, 200917 yr Goodbye, Graham. I just miss Andrew. Because he was lights out when he was up, right? Start Badenhop. I don't think Meyer is a bad suggestion. May 7, 200917 yr No, Martinez (or someone else) will be sent down when Miller is ready. Nobody else is starting for Miller, we're going with a 4 man rotation until he's ready. Martinez is strictly bullpen material.
May 7, 200917 yr To show it out Miller is making a start at AA on the 10th. He will then be starting on our team on the 15th. May 7-JJ 8-Nolasco 9-Volstad 10-Anibal (Miller starts in AA) 11-offday 12-JJ 13-Nolasco 14-Volstad 15-Miller
May 7, 200917 yr He had a good night but no. He's a LOOGY. I doubt even Fredi was expecting him to do what he did tonight. My guess is Taylor sticks until either Proctor or Miller is ready to come back. I just hope to God he doesn't get another start over Hopper.
May 7, 200917 yr Don't like it just because we'd have no LOOGY in the pen. .319/.383/.500 career against lefties doesn't exactly scream LOOGY. And while he has done well against lefties this year in a short sample, entering the night, he had actually done better against righties. Not that I'm a fan of this move (simply b/c Meyer is doing well in his current role)...just sayin'...

And isn't it going to be a while before Proctor comes back? I just read that Proctor had another setback in his rehabbing.
May 7, 200917 yr Yeah Proctor's due back date before was June and now it's looking likely he won't pitch this year.
