"Kid" who caught Chris' first career HR

people are d-bags. if i had caught a rookies first homerun i'd just give the ball back. but if it was some sort of record homerun from an overpaid veteran i'd definitely ask for something.

That would kinda be my thought....it would be cool enough to meet the guy and be able to give his home run ball back to him (knowing that it probably meant a lot for him)....anything I got in return would be gravy. To ask for as much as this guy did....I guess I can't imagine doing that.

It looks like he's yelling at someone in a picture? lol ... alright man... you nailed him.

So lets say, just as an example, you were the fan that caught the ball and all known details of the story stay the same (the demands, the various people that approached you, etc.) yet you were a perfect gentleman during the whole situation.

You wake up the next day and you read reports that you were a complete asshole to everyone involved.

1) wouldn't that upset you?

2) if you have a blog already set-up, wouldn't you do whatever it takes to prove you are not an asshole by giving your side of the story (with supporting documents like pictures)?

...Regardless.

But whatever, if you want to believe his side over everyone else's side, that's fine. I'm just saying, it's strange that, if he was being so damn cooperative, that this whole thing came about. It's not like this happens everytime a the Marlins get a milestone ball back.

how does that photo prove anything on either side of this argument?

It looks like he's yelling at someone in a picture? lol ... alright man... you nailed him.

I'm not arguing for or against the validty of either side of the story. The guy might very well be a jerk. The one detail that is somewhat consistent is the demands.

I take more umbridge to what 'Hawkfan' posted more than anything. "I'm sure of this"

The fact of the matter is that once a ball is hit into the stands it becomes the property of that fan. Also, his initial demands were not excessive by any stretch of the imagination and if they were what does that matter? Its his ball to do whatever he wants with. He could have asked for $1,000,000 if he wanted to, he could have just given it away for nothing. He did neither. His demands (no matter who you believe on this) were not at all excessive.

You didn't answer the question... do I have to post neo dodging cats again? lol

In that picture you posted I see that his (the fan) mouth is just as wide open as Coghlans' was in his picture. Does this mean we should infer Coghlan was yelling at the fan?

Even if it was a Mets rookie?

You guys are extremely nice, then.

If I caught a ball I would ask for an autographed bats from the best player on that team and from the player whose ball I caught. You know why I would ask for that? BECAUSE 1,000's OF BASEBALL BATS ARE USED, BROKEN, NOT USED THROUGHOUT A SEASON.

How much is a couple of bats even worth to a MLB team? peanuts, thats what.

Looks to me like he is yelling right at that guy. Looks to many like he is. I posted the photo because you made it seem as if I was making up this yelling thing.

because you are making that up. Were you there?

so let me get this straight, because his mouth is open, he's yelling at someone.

That would mean Coghlan was yelling at the dude taking a picture of him.

While I don't think the request itself was that excessive, it's actually a big deal with a guy like Hanley. He, like many other big name players, has a contract with a (or multiple, I know of only one though) collectibles and memorabilia company. Per those contacts, he's probably not supposed to just give out things like bats, as it deludes the market.

You just like to fight. I wasn't making anything up.

But tell me that you know for a fact that he wasn't yell. Because you were there, obviously.

I agree, if I caught Coghlan's homer I probably would just ask for a picture together in return (with ball in hand).

which memorabilia company is that? and where in his contract does it say he can give out an (one) autographed bat? Ohhh, ok I just re-read your post and saw the word "probably". I forgot you like to assume.

and how is one bat is going to delude the market?

and even if Hanley signed 30 bats and gave them at the end of one game do you really think any inteligent business person would try to void a contract with one of the bast players in the game (and a potential HOFer)?

I never said he did yell or he didnt in the first place. YOU are the one claiming that he obviously did yell, simply based on a snapshot.

Hollywood Collectibles. But that's not even the point anymore.

You love to assume.

You assume:

1) The mainstream media is lying and painting him unfairly, while this "little guy" is giving his "honest opinion on what happened".

2) Hanley likes to breach contacts because he knows he can.

3) That he's not yelling in that photo.

4) His contract doesn't say that.

My words were it "looks like him screaming". Do you know why?

Because it looks like him screaming.

Seriously though, you just enjoy fighting.

I assumed nothing. Please provide examples if I did.

I said that media has an advantage when it comes to making someone look bad. I never said the media lied.

Where is this contact you know so much about?

I never said he didn't yell, I never said he did yell. You are claiming that he obviously did. Thats called an assumption...

And yes, you posted tons of assumptions, like the once I pointed out, sir who enjoys arguing on the internet. Also sir who enjoys putting words in other peoples mouths.

Fair enough. It looks to me like he's having a disagreement.

If you want to make the jump that "it looks like he was yelling", thats on you.

I don't like arguing.

I just can't stand perpetuated BS when no one here really knows what happens yet the fan is labled a Jerk.

"even if Hanley...." is not an assumption. Its an example of a situation.

I think know you have problems with definitions so I guees its a moot point arguing anything with you.

Well, no one ever really know what happens with most things, whether it was this or the Manny Ramirez test (was it to bring his cycle back from steroids or a penile problem?) or even the Hanley hair cut thing. We just know what the information given to us was.

If you look at the early posts, I was on Happy's side. Like I said, I don't fault the guy for trying to get a couple bats. But when multiple news sources reported what they felt happened, I decided they were collectively a more credible source than the accused.

And this is why I assume you enjoy arguing. You can't do it like an adult and just go over what the topic is, you have to throw put downs at people.

Since you claim to know so much about how bats are supposed to be given out and, more specifically, Hanleys contract with a memorabilia company, why don't you go ahead and provide us with a copy of this contract you know so much about.

It seems like you just spewing out garbage, none of which you have any credible information about.

I might like to argue (according to you) but at least when I make an informed point, I don't make assumptions or include contrived statements or information.

Well let me tell you this... just because multiple news sources report something it doesnt make it so.

I don't know what happened but I must say that it is a very sh*tty thing to have to disprove something when someone is accusing you of something you never did.

I could provide you with an example but I'm not sure if you really even care at this point.

Gimmie a sec, I'm scanning it.

No, seriously though, if you know anything about these things you know that it's standard practice. I don't see what the problem is with assuming something that is usually true is true.
