"Kid" who caught Chris' first career HR

Featured Replies

You love to assume.

You assume:

1) The mainstream media is lying and painting him unfairly, while this "little guy" is giving his "honest opinion on what happened".

2) Hanley likes to breach contacts because he knows he can.

3) That he's not yelling in that photo.

4) His contract doesn't say that.

"even if Hanley...." is not an assumption. Its an example of a situation.

I think know you have problems with definitions so I guees its a moot point arguing anything with you.

And this is why I assume you enjoy arguing. You can't do it like an adult and just go over what the topic is, you have to throw put downs at people.

Whatever. Just wanted to make you aware that your little list of Assumptions (1,2,3,4) aren't really assumptions at all. You do realize this now, right?

I don't like arguing.

I just can't stand perpetuated BS when no one here really knows what happens yet the fan is labled a Jerk.

Well, no one ever really know what happens with most things, whether it was this or the Manny Ramirez test (was it to bring his cycle back from steroids or a penile problem?) or even the Hanley hair cut thing. We just know what the information given to us was.

If you look at the early posts, I was on Happy's side. Like I said, I don't fault the guy for trying to get a couple bats. But when multiple news sources reported what they felt happened, I decided they were collectively a more credible source than the accused.

Well let me tell you this... just because multiple news sources report something it doesnt make it so.

I don't know what happened but I must say that it is a very sh*tty thing to have to disprove something when someone is accusing you of something you never did.

I could provide you with an example but I'm not sure if you really even care at this point.

But why should I assume that he never did it? Have you never taken multiple news reports for the probable truth before?

And sure, provide an example. I don't hold you with a forth of the contempt you seem to hold me in. I just think you need to learn a little tact with people.

Since you claim to know so much about how bats are supposed to be given out and, more specifically, Hanleys contract with a memorabilia company, why don't you go ahead and provide us with a copy of this contract you know so much about.

It seems like you just spewing out garbage, none of which you have any credible information about.

I might like to argue (according to you) but at least when I make an informed point, I don't make assumptions or include contrived statements or information.

Gimmie a sec, I'm scanning it.

No, seriously though, if you know anything about these things you know that it's standard practice. I don't see what the problem is with assuming something that is usually true is true.

I'll give you more than just a second.

I can't wait for this.

:)

So when I say "probably", meaning it's the likely situation, I am the assumption king, but when you provide an "example of a situation", you are Senor Fair and Balanced?

The joke is on me for trying to argue with you to begin with so I'll just end my rant with this.

It worries me that there are people in the same world I live in that would pass judgment on someone and consider them a "jerk" because he asked for two autographed pieces of wood and a couple of tickets to a game. A game which he loves, which he takes his kids and his wife to. The same games the people he serves and protects love to attend.

I guess I shouldn't be so passionate about silly sh*t like this online but I just hate getting reminded about how many apathetic, yet judgmental persons there are running around... Thank you for finally teaching me a lesson about arguing online.

Why does everything have to be backhanded with you? And you must know by now that most on here aren't passing judgement because he asked for two pieces of wood and a couple of tickets, they are reacting to reports of him acting like a "jerk".

Asking for 2 bat isn't nearly enough. I'd push the issue and ask for tickets, bats, jersey's, etc. Why the hell not? The team doesn't give me ANYTHING for free. I love them and I want Chris to get his ball but it's going to cost him/them.

Sorry, I had one left to squeeze out. Now I'm done.

Hate those damn, "danglers" if ya know what I mean. :hat

This "jerk" has probably spent (since we're making assumptions now) thousands of dollars on MLB. Is he really such a "jerk" for asking for a couple of pieces of autographed wood and a couple of tickets? Maybe it looks like steep demands if you're the Marlins (wink wink... the team with the lowest payroll and an owner(s) that has short arms and deep pockets). He paid for a ticket, he caught the ball, the ball is now his. It's up to the Marlins to satisfy him not the other way around. Its not called being a "jerk", its called business ethics. He had something of value

Is this the report you are referring to? From the Miami Herald "http://miamiherald.t...com/fish_bytes/"

"In return for the ball, said Marlins bullpen coach Steve Foster, who was the lead negotiator,"he wanted everything. He wanted bats and all kinds of stuff."

Foster said he offered a couple of baseballs in a 2-for-1 swap, but the man refused, saying he also wanted a bat autographed by Hanley Ramirez.

"I told him no," Foster said.

The negotiations continued after the game, when the man was brought onto the field and waited for Coghlan outside the Marlins dugout. Coghlan was astonished by the man's demands."

Notice the part in which the Marlins "lead negotiator", ahem, I mean.... bullpen coach Steve Foster says "I told him NO." and then the story magically jumps to .... "The negotiations continued after the game, when the man was brought onto the field... "

That sounds to me like the Marlins persuaded him to come down to the field after refusing his initial offer. I doubt that after the Marlins said "No", he jumped out of his seat and was on his hands and knees pleading "please, oh pretty, please... allow me to give this 1st HR ball to Mr. Chris Coghlan! I have to give it him! please! nooooo... don't go... please, I need to give him back his historic first HR ball. I apologize for being such a diva and asking for a couple of bats and some tickets... I had too much to drink... please renegotiate... please!"

A real "jerk" would have said "No" to begin with, or would have asked for Cash. He did neither... he asked for memorabilia (assume what you will about what he does with the memorabilia, its something of value that isn't the same as asking for cash... two very very different things).

Something tells me Chris Coghlan was a smart ass and not nice that night. The whole situation would have been more pleasant and enjoyable if the Marlins, Hanley and Chris were nice enough to give the baseball fan what he wanted and without hassle.

the marlins handle this whole situation in a bush league way. They're a multimillion dollar enterprise, and they play hard ball negotiation with a fan? Bringing out their psychologist and sh*t? Come on!!!! Coghlan problaby didnt know that whole story, just what the marlins told him, but he's a f***ing punk.

I honestly don't know who to believe with this whole thing. I am inclined not to believe some of these stories published in the media and actually believe the fan when he says that the Marlins and Chris were being pushy. I suppose the pictures help somewhat.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to say that I despise these "ball hogs." Allegedly this 31 year old "kid" Zach Hample is the ringleader of them all. Hample is a hardcore douchebag that travels around major league parks collecting baseballs. He is a spoiled rich kid from New York that funds his hobby presumably from money that his parents give him, as he does not claim to possess any sort of occupation that could bring in an income that sustains him.

This subject came up recently in another thread and I posted my commentary about the one and only time I encountered Hample at a baseball game. You can read my comments here, although they are not very juicy: http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/forums/index.php?/topic/87811-inside-look-at-citi-field-in-ny/page__view__findpost__p__1808779

Zach Hample, who I've heard from a few people who have met him is a giant asshole, is not this same guy, who's real name is Nick and is a cop.

Not sure if you thought it was the same person or if you were just bringing up the other guy up, but I just thought it was worth clearing up just in case.

Mephisto, people are claiming that he's in security....

What kind of cop travels the country as a "professional ballhawk"?

I was actually thinking about that earlier. Not calling him a liar, but he has an awful lot of off time for a police officer. I have a few cop friends and none of them can afford to take so many days off.

Fine.... 18 games attended this season alone (look at his "Ball Hawking" stats).

I barely work and have only been able to attend 5 games this year. Now imagine a grueling police officer's schedule. Come to think of it, no way this loser is a cop. If he is, he's gonna get hazed for the rest of his career until he leaves the force. What kind of adult calls himself a "professional ball hawk"?

who cares? the marlins still handled this whole thing in a sh*tty way. Its his hobby..I watch grown men play sports, and get paid more than head of states for it...

BTW: calling another person a loser is a nasty thing to do, specially one you don't even know

But he also travels a bit, he's been to Chicago already (yeah, not that far), Toronto, and Arizona for Spring Training this year he goes to day games and night games. He has a lot of free time. Once again, not calling him a liar, just think it's a bit unusual. For all I know he does a lot of favors for time off, never uses sick days for anything but a few series away, and works the graveyard shift.

Zack works for his parents at a book store they own.

I spoke to him about the incident and while he supports Happy Youngster he said he would not have been such a prick about it.

To the guy defending Youngster to no end... what kind of officer lets a civilian play with his gun? Yes, Zack and Youngster are buddies.

....cause it belongs to his parents. I am sure he makes his own schedule.

How could he be working at a bookstore if he has been to series in Milwaukee, Chicago (White Sox), Chicago (Cubs), Toronto, Baltimore, and Texas since the season began?

he's talking about hample. Nick's a cop....

Anyone remember where it was said the brewers were about to ban this clown from Millerpark?

I don't know if this is what you were referring to or not but I wrote that the flaw in Happy's thinking that he was in charge of how negotiations went because he had the ball, was ignoring the fact the stadium authority could go thermonuclear and ban his butt from Miller Park any time they wanted. I never they were about to or anything like that or implied it, just pointing why he was wrong in the way he went about things.
