May 25, 200917 yr Bonifacio's appearances on the nl leaderboard Good: 1st in the nl in singles 9th in sb 2nd in 3b Bad: 1st in outs made 4th in cs The things he's bad at vastly outweigh the things he's good at because the things he is good at aren't as important to winning baseball games as the things he is bad at.
May 25, 200917 yr And yet he's getting on base more consistently game to game than any other Marlin. No. And how many other Marlins have gotten on base the last sixteen games in a row? And during that 16 game stretch his OBP is under .300 so...not very consistent.
May 25, 200917 yr Bonifraudio does nothing but strike out, get thrown out while looking lost standing at first, and boot balls at 3b. (Thought he was supposed to be a defensive upgrade? LIES!!) If he does nothing but strike out, how the hell does he get thrown out at first as by your logic, he'd never get there??? Proves my point, really. Obviously i know he gets a HIT here, and there and sometimes does walk!!! Shocking I know but when he does make it to first he looks lost out there which is why i said "get thrown out while looking lost standing at first," the few hits he does get he ends up messing them up.... He should have 25 steals by now as fast as he is! He's been terrible as a leadoff man. The guys a joke... He doesn't belong in the majors.
May 25, 200917 yr It appears he'll walk more and strikeout less in May than April, and hopefully that trend will continue from May to June. He's learning to lay off that high strike or at least being susceptible less often. I look at things this way - the difference between hitting .300 and .256 is roughly a single hit a week. That's what you hope he's learning, how to get that extra hit a week. If he can learn to get an extra walk and an extra hit a week his OBP will be more intune with where it ought to be, he'll steal more bases, he'll score more runs, good things happen from incremental improvements. There are some things he's doing terribly right now, like getting picked off too often, a guy like him can't allow that to happen. And his bunting is seems to be deteriorating not getting better. He can't stay in this league with his skillset of he can't bunt his way on or be expected to move runners along. And these opposite field popups...

He doesn't belong in the majors. he is an adequate fringe player for a team in eternal rebuilding mode. he is never going to be a star, and whoever though that was the case with his torrid start, was fooling themselves. I'm seeing some improvement, but I don't think he belongs (or may ever) in the lead off spot regardless. he does belongs in the majors, he is probably a bench player on an average team. Speed and good defense are good asset for the bench. he just happens to play on a bad team at the moment.

Speed and good defense are good asset for the bench. he just happens to play on a bad team at the moment. Yeah but he's one of the main reasons why the team is bad! Along with a shady bullpen, and a starting rotation that is still trying to figure out who's who. But his bad play has cost us games, and his bad play will continue to cost us games if he's not benched or demoted. The guy simply isn't a major leaguer, and you can't tell me that this team isn't better with him not starting! This line up here would be much improved over what we have now... CF - De Aza LF - Hermida SS - Ramirez 1B - Cantu 2b - Uggla RF - Ross 3B - Coghlan C - Baker P - Baker should hit 8th because he's a good hitter, and he would make pitchers pitch to Coghlan more fast balls which he can drive, and drive in runs, and hitting infront of the pitcher being a patient hitter he will walk a lot, and I think Baker is the best suited for this role. He is an excellent contact hitter who's very patient at the plate, and thats what you need as an 8th hitter, and that's one thing we lacked with Maybin, and one thing we still lack with playing a rookie like Coghlan at number 8 is a mistake. Bonifacio is best served either on the bench or in the minors that guys hurting us almost on a daily basis... He has terrible range cus to him being so short so a lot of balls get by him that even Cabrera at his fatest would get to! He has a weak arm, and can't throw people out for the most part, and while he's fast he has the worst base stealing instincts i have ever seen in a leadoff hitter! I mean this guy is LOST out there when he does get on he finds a way to get out! He simply doesn't have the skills to be an everyday major leaguer... Amezega should get the job over him for crying out loud!!! Gload should be starting over him, Helms should be starting over him! My grand mother who's dead should be starting over him! Get the point? He is terrible...

He is terrible... NO!!!! This Lineup would Never Happen. Baker hitting 8th is like having Hanley hit 7th, he's too good of a hitter for that and Fredi perfers mixing up Rigjht and Left handed batters and her you have Lefties batting back to back twice? Also you can't have 2 lefties begin a Lineup if they face a lefty pitcher there basically going to have no one on base for Hanley. I like the players used just not the Lineup

Do you watch baseball? You get one of our best on-base guys and put him in one of the positions that score the least? Faaaantastic.
May 25, 200917 yr And yet he's getting on base more consistently game to game than any other Marlin. No. And how many other Marlins have gotten on base the last sixteen games in a row? This is an extremely misleading statistic and I would think you know that. There are several Marlins who have a better OBP during that stretch and that matters far more than "doing it in a row".
May 25, 200917 yr There is no glamour in Bonifacio hitting in fourteen of the last sixteen games and getting on base in all sixteen except that it's true, because he's not being productive enough for it matter tremendously. But the picture more than a few here paint is wholly inaccurate and that's why I bring it up. It's because of the wild and demeaning comments that are repeated here ten, twenty times a day like he strikes out all the time, he's an automatic out, or he never gets a hit etc., or any of the BS people throw around masquerading as truth. I have no problem with people finding fault with his game because there are holes in it big enough to drive a Mac truck through but at least recognize he is not as problematic as a lot of people seem to think and that he's shown enough improvement to be getting more or less a hit a night, more than other starters and a lot better than Coghlan's 3 for 30 before yesterday's game, the kid (they are the same age give or take 2 months) while not *producing* enough to earn himself a leadoff spot is an improvement over what was happening April. That's all I'm looking for is gradual improvement. I've said for a couple of days he needs some time on the bench because he's looking confused again at the plate and he needs to sit down and think about how he elevates his game another notch. If he can do that then I'm thrilled because he's going to wind up contributing more to the team than he was last week and that's all I care about. I hope Coghlan can do the same thing as well, and a number of regs who have underachieved most of the season. I'll keep posting his gradual accomplishments until the haters stop making wild and scrulous comments and trying to pass them off as truth like the he's never done anything in the minors BS that ignores completely his 2008 season. What is to be accomplished by that I don't know. I guess people think if they repeat it often enough they can change history but unless they can wipe baseballreference.com clean his 2008 minor league numbers stand.
May 26, 200917 yr I think some people are too hard on him, but some people are way too quick to give him a benefit of the doubt that he has not earned.
