Braves acquire McLouth from Pirates

Outfielder dealt to Atlanta for three top prospects By Mark Bowman

ATLANTA -- The Braves have acquired All-Star outfielder Nate McLouth from the Pirates in exchange for three highly regarded Minor League prospects. The clubs announced that the Pirates will send McLouth to the Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton, left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez. McLouth, who is hitting .256 with nine homers and a .470 slugging percentage this year, will likely serve as the Braves' everyday center fielder. The 26-year-old outfielder hit .276 with 26 homers and 94 RBIs last year.

I'd like to mention to everybody that this year, a year everybody is considering McLouth's "off year", he is hitting around his career average in all statistics.

Good deal both ways, you know what you are getting if you are the Braves, and the Pirates got some prospects that while they aren't great, can be managed to become fixtures in the bullpen most likely.

Nice trade for the Braves but who the f*** do the Pirates make there team around now? There only all star is gone.

McLouth is pretty overrated. Losing "their only all-star" isn't as big a deal as you'd think, they need depth, and decent depth, not just fodder. Look at the Bos/LA/Pit trade, I openly didn't like it, but they got their high caliber guy in Andy LaRoche, high upside arm and then some nice depth pieces. They're crappy records will start to get them star players through the draft with a competent GM like Huntington at the helm.

Andy LaRoche and Adam LaRoche at the corners is a very good brother tandem. The Pirates need some extra pitching, its just that simple. They got some pitching prospects, help to boost their minor league system and possibly add some bullpen arms for the future.

and also mclouth isn't going to break the bank like some other outfielders like dunn. he's only going to be making around 5 million per year for the next 3 years

I guess Jimmyjack will become a Pirates fan now, looks like a good move for both teams

f*** yeah man...sorry furcalchick, your whole franchise can go back to eating sh*t in my mind...GO MARLINS!!!...and kinda go Pirtates!...

by the way...i havent talked to jeff yet...but i hear he is happy as he wasnt understanding why the braves where trying to get him to learn 2 new pitches during the season...which is why his control numbers look like crap thus far in comparison to every other level he has pitched at...

I was looking at Locke's numbers, and JimmyJack might flame me for this, but I see Locke being like our very own Dan Meyer, obviously if he can find a niche starting, better for them, but he appears to be quite cool.

Nate McLouth is the definition of a basball player. You know he'll get every ounce out of talent. But he really isn't that talented and not a middle of the order guy on a good team or worth what the Braves gave up. As long as he's not a focal point of the offense, he could play on my team any day.

I think we definetly gave up too much for Nate...but I still like the deal. Braves really need an OF, need a leadoff hitter and need a spark...he brings all of that. I hate giving up Gorkys the other 2 guys are ok but Gorkys I feel will be really good one day.

i personally see my cousin as a glavine-molded pitcher...he uses the corners well, has nice movement on his fastball, and an above average curve and change...

i think jeff's big problem is how awful the defense has been behind him...he is trying to be too fine with his pitches...

and also...like i said...i have no idea why the braves were trying to get him to throw a cutter and a sinker during the season when they didnt have him throwing those pitches at all during spring training

Today in his Braves Debut he went 0-4 and had to carry a My Little Pony Backpack :)

His replacement in Pitsburgh, Andrew McCutchen, has gone 2-8 so far with 3 runs scored and he has shown some pretty good potential and has great speed.

It always stinks to lose depth in your system, I'm always disappointed to see prospects go. But in the end Morton is a back of the rotation guy at best and Gorkys is one of those guys in the Carlos Gomez/Michael Bourne mode, who bring exciting athleticism and tools but really don't do enough at the plate to make them worth the hype. McLouth may not be a terrific player but I wouldn't fret about giving up what you did because out of all the guys in that deal, McLouth is the only potential impact guy.

would have been a perfect fit on the fish

definitely, he'd allow coughlan to move to 3rd and we'd have a pretty good leadoff hitter with power. but the front office doesn't like giving up prospects or giving money to players. i think he'd be the second highest paid player on our team and of course he signed for 3 years which is another thing the franchise doesn't like to do, commitment to players.
