So if the Fish tried to reel in Soria and Bell

I would hope the least Dominguez becomes is a clubhouse leader and player like Mike Lowell. Before 2005. BA of .300, 23-27 HR's, 90-110 RBI, and someone us fans can love.

You've got to think that any trade would start with Maybin for either of those guys and if that's the case, I'll pass.

Maybins patient at the plate, but he DOES lack contact...

He was lacking contact. He's tearing up AAA right now at .319/.410/.452/.862 clips. By the end of the year, he'll be ready to play up here.

You don't throw a potential franchise player away for a reliever that can come at a dime a dozen in free agency.

I've actually heard about Dominguez being compared to Ryan Zimmerman.

More likely than not with the good defense than the bat.

Minor League is different from Major league baseball.

not so different that you should disregard what a player has done.

True.

He would still have to prove himself once again in the majors.

I think we need to wait on comparison High A 69 games he is hitting .247 and 11 errors

Maybin's one home run in 157 PAs and his 59% GB percentage does not impress me.

how about his 13/12 bb/k ratio over the last month, with a 50% gb% and a 23% ld%?

That's an improvement but I think it's a better idea to look at the entire season. I also would prefer if he was hitting home runs.

Look at the entire season when we know how bad he was struggling when he was sent down? The improvements he's made have been gargantuan.

Errors are irrelevant. His D was considered MLB caliber before he was even drafted. And he has been pretty damn good at the place since mid-May, he just had an incredibly bad start.

Curious, how unlikely is it that Mike Lowell comes back to Florida?

I can't find his contract details anywhere, but I think it expires, and the Sox want a healthy 3B (they were discussing beltre before he went down)

Lowell could be a decent pick up if he's used properly. Especially in a leadership role.

Could be a great number 5 hitter behind Cantu.

Would also force Bonerface to the bench and used only in a Platoon situation.

He still hasn't made any more than marginal improvements at driving the ball. Sure, his AVG is nice, but that will disappear a lot quicker than you think in the majors. Maybin has always been highly rated because his physical frame allows him to have tremendous power when he drives a ball. The problem is that he has never developed the ability to utilize his physical talent and drive the ball consistently which was necessary for him to reach the ceiling that made him a top prospect.

While the team could bring him up now, practically all they would be getting at best is a .270 hitter with negligible power. And that's just not what Cameron Maybin is supposed to be. He still has a lot of improvements to make at AAA if he is ever going to become that guy that we anticipated him being.

Exceedingly. They ain't paying 10+M for an old 3B, fan favorite or not. Ever.

Cot's. 2 seconds:

'08: 12M

'09: 12M

'10: 12M

not to mention that he's living large on the road, he gets a suite!

No mention of whether he has to pay for mini-bar items.

I have a better chance of playing 3B for the Marlins than does Lowell because I'd do it for lot less than the 10M+ that he will want post-'10. Maybe they'll bring him back in about 2017 when he could be a "veteran presence" and "good clubhouse guy" for about 1 mill.

I have my doubts about whether Lowell can even make it through this year. He's missed a few games lately due to hip problems. He's 35 and hasn't been holding up as well as he usually does.

However, there was talk about him losing his touch back in '06, so you never know.

He's only 14 years away from passing Julio Franco's record of oldest player in baseball history.

The Red Sox ran Lowell into the ground this season. As far as Lowell coming back, I don't see it happening unless the Red Sox pick up at least 80% of the money he is owed. And even then I doubt it. After hearing the glowing comments about Boni from Fredi yesterday and Beinfest today, I doubt he is going anywhere anytime soon.

As to the original question about what it'd cost to get Soria or Bell - too much.

I don't think that Bell would be worth it. I doubt that they would pay to re-sign Bell and I don't know if there's a compensation pick if he signs with another team. At this point, the Marlins are only a .500 team. Giving up prospects for a player that they would only have for a few months doesn't seem worth it.

On the other hand, Soria would be around for a few years at a relatively low price. He would be the better choice in my opinion.

I don't think its time to make a move yet. We could drop 15 out of 20 and be totally out of the race by the time the trade deadline rolls around. Or we could win 15 out of 20 and have a 5 or 6 game lead. I think it would be smart to wait.

His biggest problems when he was sent down were not being able to hit the ball in the air and his patience. I think bobbob just posted the figures this month: 13/12 BB/K with a 50% GB% and a 23% LD%.

I'm not saying we should call the guy up right now by any means. I'm saying he'll definitely be ready by next season and probably ready for a September callup and that trading him, a type A franchise player that comes along once every ten years, when 2/3 starting outfielders are set to hit free agency next year for a reliever that is going to be able to be found tenfold on free agency this coming year would be disadvantageous to say the least.

Maybin's GB% in June is 52% and that's still really bad unless you're are a Juan Pierre / Willy Taveras type. I hope he'll be better than that! I guess the 52% is not as bad as 67% he posted in May but it's still really bad.

I would rather make a move now for a reliver and 3rd baseman. And If we are out of it by the deadline, we can trade who we got along with Uggla, Cantu, Hermida, etc...
