So if the Fish tried to reel in Soria and Bell

Featured Replies

From John Heyman:

?The Marlins inquired about closing stars Heath Bell and Joakim Soria in hopes of filling their relief openings. Injuries to closer Matt Lindstrom (elbow) and Kiko Calero (shoulder) have left them shorthanded at a time they are challenging for the NL East division lead. For now, both the Padres (Bell) and Royals (Soria) are saying neither reliever is available.

If it's even remotely true you have to give the front office props for thinking big. Bell leads the NL in saves with 20 and Soria would be a welcome addition as well. The question is knowing Kansas City and San Diego, especially the former who has lots of other pieces they'd like to move before Soria (including Mike Jacobs) what wouldbe going back their way in a trade?

I can't imagine Towers moving Bell before the All-Star Game if at all. Bell interestingly went to his manager recently because he wanted a heavier workload.

I think, it would be similar to Urbina deal.

If we trying to bring a determined 'closer-like' reliever, we should be trade a prospect within our top 10.

Maybe, they were looking for Gaby Sanchez, Morrison or Dominguez. (Stanton must not.)

I'd be shocked if they could get either of them for anything less than Maybin, Stanton, Morrison, Dominguez, West, G. Sanchez, Coghlan, etc. They can have any combination of guys besides that, but those are some serious names.

Peace Out Tucker, Lindsey, and Koronka!

The trade is for a legit closer; not a bag of peanuts.

it would take too much but they would be awesome additions. if we could acquire soria and teahen from the royals it would fill two major holes on our team.

Peace Out Tucker, Lindsey, and Koronka!

Holy Crap!

I cant believe I forgot!

Take the fat one, the no brain thrower, and the bonerface with you!!

You've got to think that any trade would start with Maybin for either of those guys and if that's the case, I'll pass.

Maybins patient at the plate, but he DOES lack contact...

Maybin, Stanton, Morrison, Dominguez, Smolinski, Sanabia, and Kaminska should be the only untouchables in the system.

what happend to cousins and skipworth?

Cousins, Raynor, and Petersen should all be made available. Skipworth, potential aside, currently doesnt have much trade value.

and Dominguez? that guy lacks both contact and patience. He's only a good defender i guess.

Smolinski, Sanabia, and Kaminska are not deal breakers when it comes to Heath Bell.

Just because he is struggling as a teenager doesn't mean he doesn't have trade value. He is a significant prospect. Teams would love to acquire him.

He has projectable power, and could be a future Joe Crede. That's a good starter.

He is untouchable because he is the only hope for 3B in the organization. Sanchez is filler at best.

I would love to see Soria in a Marlins Uniform, but not at the price of one of the top prospects in our system. Tucker, and a few others would be fine.

Who I would clamor for is Ramon Hernandez, a Steady Great C who can play 3B when needed as well as 1B.

He'd be a great fit. Especially if it means the end of Ronnie "I'm a defensive aquisition but I suck at RTO" Paulino.

With that said, this is probably going to suck but --- but if we can go 4 games at C for Bake, 3 for Ramon, with the other 3 at 3B, we'd have a chance at survival. I do like Baker though.

I believe Ramon is a LHB too.

I've also heard Eric Chavez comparisons

It's idiotic to acquire a catcher with our holes elsewhere, and we don't need 1B depth in this organization. He has also played 1 inning of 3B in his 1252 game career. Hernandez also makes $3 million the second half of this season, with a $1 million buyout after it.

Awesome suggestion.

Are Bell and Soria under club control much longer? I hate the idea of renting them for what we would have to give up...although it would be awesome for this season

Neither are rentals. Bell through 2011, but will be very expensive in arbitration next year. Soria has a contract, but it's a very reasonable $3 million in 2010 and $4 million in 2011. An automatic option kicks in at $6 million in 2012 if he's awesome, but that's again very affordable.

Chavez had/has a lot better eye and power than Dominguez.

If Dominguez fully develops, I'd guess he has a .260/.325/.450 kind of future. But with the out of this world defense, that's an above average starter at 3B. He's probably a complimentary piece to Hanley, Stanton, Morrison, and Maybin, but there is nothing wrong with that and a nice player to have.
