  1. how much does Garland Cost? More than the min, so he's not an option.
  2. That's really not true at all, Nolasco has been sick since he came back from the minors, obviously his last start was bad but that happens to everyone sometimes. If we get to the playoffs and he's pitching like he has been for most of his starts since coming back, we possibly have the 2nd best 1-2 in the NL. And really that is all it takes, as long as your 3rd starter is ok.. Not really because if your 1 and 2 starters both win but your 3-4 and 5 starters all lose the your going to finish with a losing record. You need 1 or 2 good starting pitchers the 2 solid starters that can give you 6 or 7 innings every game then at most 2 average starters that can get through at least 5 innings. To think that before the season started everyone was so excited about our starting rotation and we thought we'd have the best or one of the best in the MLB and how it was going to probably be the strength of the team. Now look at our rotation we have one All Star, one who's having trouble with the long ball and one who had his troubles at the beginning of the season but has came back and been very good to go along with a plethora of guys who have been in the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation. I'm talking about during the actual playoffs...you don't even use a 5th starter ever in the playoffs, and in the 5 game series you only need 3.
  3. If we play .583 ball the rest of the way (how we've played in July and August), we end up with about 88 wins. That may be enough to win the WC, but it would be nice if we could get to 90 wins. It would be nicer to 6-0 the Phillies and take the division, but the Wild card is obv acceptable

Rays released Jorge Julio. Marlins should go after him and make him our closer Yeah or we could just concede the season and let everyone get some extra time off. I still have nightmares about those games in 07.. pass. smoltz is done Not really, his peripherals are all good, if he doesn't get signed it would be pretty ridiculous, every contending team has a worse pitcher on their staff.
  6. I feel like Cantu just hasn't been the same since the first month or so, whenever he had that injury, he's still good but I think there's definitely some problem there. Nunez seemed shaky in the 9th, kept missing by a lot on his opening pitches to everyone, he seemed to be able to get it under control and eventually throw strikes though. Really need the sweep tomorrow, glad JJ will be pitching.
  7. Huge win, but still frustrating to see the offense not do much. There's really no reason they should be struggling against Joe Blanton...Ricky won us the game, it's very rare that 3 runs is enough to outscore Philly. The offense needs to start clicking and fast...if we sweep here we're right back in the race for the division.
  8. I'm curious to see the team's stats with risp over the season, and runners left on, because I honestly can't imagine any team in history being worse. It seems like we get 2 runners on every inning and just never score.
  9. Adding Bell would be nice since he should be cheap for awhile, but it would be stupid to overpay,we don't actually need him. To have any chance of contending we need another bat, whether that be Maybin or someone in a trade. The current lineup is not getting it done. Problem is I really can't think of many possible trade options for a bat, considering we can't add much payroll.
  10. You're right we wouldn't complain about Uggla, because if he was making that play it wouldn't happen. How do you know that? It's not a sure bet. He may have done the exact same thing. I like how that's the only part of my post you argue against....no reasons why Bonifacio is useful to the team? Shocking... I don't blame him for not hitting, it isn't his fault he's in the starting lineup every day, but plays like that should never be messed up.
  11. For Gods sake, that was one error. Sure, it's continued the inning, but damn it, if that was Uggla you guys probably wouldn't care about it. Boni could be making spectacular plays all night over at third, but one small mistake which could end up to nothing [not talking about tonight] and you guys are all over him. GIVE THE MAN A f***ING BREAK! Are you serious? He doesn't do anything well except run, which is irrelevant because he doesn't get on base. The least he could, the absolute least, is not f*** up completely routine plays. There is no excuse for what he did, he's a natural 2B, and f***ing McCann is the runner, he had like 3 hours to make a good throw. You're right we wouldn't complain about Uggla, because if he was making that play it wouldn't happen. Now, the Braves score an extra run, and it probably takes away another inning JJ would've pitched...
  12. It seems like for the most part the past 2 seasons in any given game Pinto is completely hit or miss. When he goes out there and 4 pitch walks the first batter Fredi should instantly pull him...I don't think I've ever seen a game where he starts off that way and doesn't completely implode. However, Fredi never does that, and basically concedes the games in which he has no command.

I think people are being a little rough on him, he's a baseball player it's his first few days doing this, I don't think he did too bad, obviously Tommy is going to be much better at it.
  14. The season is basically over. That game was such a joke, the more Philly tried to let us win the more we f***ed up. And if they don't see why Fredi is completely incompetent by now then there is literally no hope.
  15. Better not be more than 1 inning, hope Manuel doesn't try to assassinate him to keep his team in 1st
  16. They should have added Adam Dunn in the offseason and traded Hermida for a better third baseman than Bonifacio. lol
  17. I think our rotation is very strong, could easily develop into the best we've had. Nolasco is not a 4 era pitcher, he obviously fixed whatever problem he had and is back to being dominant like he was in the 2nd half last season. Not saying he's going be under 2 permenantly but def better than 4. I'm surprised everyone is so quick to think Volstad is bad now, he'd been very consistent up until his past few starts, I'd think it's more likely he will get back to where he was than to get worse. West is definitely a fine #5, most teams 5th starters are really terrible. Miller has been awesome since coming off the DL, if he can keep up even close to what he's been doing we definitely have one of the top rotations in the NL.
  18. Send down De Aza for Maybin? Then run Maybin in center Hermida can platoon with Carroll and then Ross plays whichever corner is open based on that. Move Coghlan to third. Leroux down obv, Wood has good numbers I didn't realize he was doing so well, so that does make it tough. I'm honestly not too optimisitc about Ayala, he may not even last too long, if he does, good problem to have I guess. Just my opinion.
  19. If we stay this close in the standings I don't think they'll trade anyone big. Maybe Hermida since they keep benching him anyway but I doubt they would get the type of return they'd want for him. I can see some smaller trade happening like us sending an ok prospect for a bullpen arm or something along those lines. Obviously if we go on a bad losing streak they could go nuts..
  20. Tonight's game is a good example. He had yet another opportunity to get in the free run with us down by 1 and he failed to do it, if Hanley doesn't get that 2 out single the rain delay ends it with us being down 5-4 and we lose...so yeah he needs to go. And yet you leave out the run he produced with his speed. I don't understand how people can argue in his favor. Speed is the only thing he has going for him, and that only matters if you're on base, which rarely happens. He can't hit, he can't walk, he's bad defensively...why on earth would anyone want him on this team? f***ed up again just now, Zimmerman makes a sh*tty throw to let him on 2nd for free, and as soon as he realizes Hanley is up (someone likely to drive him in), he tries to steal 3rd with no lead and is out by several feet.
  21. Tonight's game is a good example. He had yet another opportunity to get in the free run with us down by 1 and he failed to do it, if Hanley doesn't get that 2 out single the rain delay ends it with us being down 5-4 and we lose...so yeah he needs to go.
  22. Are Bell and Soria under club control much longer? I hate the idea of renting them for what we would have to give up...although it would be awesome for this season
  23. The Marlins aren't a "good" team, they an average team. If the front office does not make any moves, I can easily see a repeat of last year's standings playing out in the NL East. O.k first off in the Marlins defense, they are a good team. Good teams are teams like Boston and Tampa Bay, the ones who beat the Marlins brains in. The NL East is weak, yes, but that doesn't make the Marlins a good team because they are in contention. A good team would be leading this division by at least give games. The thing is, if they can run well enough to get into the playoffs, I think the team is set up well to win those types of series. Being able to set the rotation so you get multiple games from JJ/Nolasco/Volstad is huge, compared to teams who just have 5 ok starters.
  24. I'd 100% rather have Carroll in the lineup than Bonifacio at all times. He can't be any worse at the plate, and he's amazing defensively. I assume Coglhan is at least decent at 3B, so just by getting rid of Bonifacio the team will be much better. Plus then you can put Hermida in LF where he has been better...helps all around.
  25. Pretty sure we'll be seeing a lot of bullpen injuries, they are being way overworked and now with the rotation in even worse shape I don't see it improving any time soon =/
