MillerTime
He's done. I think we would be better served by having Cody go out there every 5th day.

The_Punisher
At this point I'd take a flag on anyone. While we are at it let's give Tom Glavine a call too, hey what is Steve Avery doing these days?

305_FishFanatic
April Fools right? The only way John Smoltz ends up on the Marlins is if he thows batting practice for free.

EricWiener
Well, I suppose the team could use somebody to clean the clubhouse after everyone is done showering and getting dressed. Do you guys think Smoltz will work for $9/hour?
The_Punisher
I say he stops embarrassing himself he is a Hall Of Famer, and doesn't have anything else to prove, PLUS he has a ring, call it quits, call it a career dude.

Piazza31
Wasn't smoltz an elite closer at one point 3 years ago. I'd say give him a shot in the Bullpen as the CL--move Lindstrom down to Setup. He can be useful, but we would need to find where he's best suited these days.
dim
Wasn't smoltz an elite closer at one point 3 years ago. I'd say give him a shot in the Bullpen as the CL--move Lindstrom down to Setup. He can be useful, but we would need to find where he's best suited these days. Yes, he was an elite closer. But the big reason he was that dominant was that his fastball was in the 97 MPH+ range, and his off speed pitches had some nice bite on them. Now, at the age of 42, that fastball stays at the 89 to 93 range, and he he doesn't have the same "stuff" he used to. He just doesn't have what he used to. It comes with age, some players just have to admit when they are done, and Smoltz just doesn't have anything left in the tank sadly.
gizmo
He was released for a reason...
Erick
Wouldn't Smoltz make the minimum for the rest of the year, with whoever he signs with? If that's the case...why not? Is he really that much worse than VandenHurk/5th starter who has no name right now?
Bret Hart
How about Smoltz as a reliever? He had a lots of experience as a closer. I think he's better than Luis Ayala, obviously.

The_Punisher
Vicente Padilla? WHY? Did we not batter him enough with the Phillies? I'd rather see him on an opponents squad, now that says alot!
