Has anyone other than myself noticed how Hanley has changed his batting stance from 08 to 09? This year he no longer protrudes his left leg out. It's more aligned with the rest of his body. Not a big deal or anything, I was just wondering if anyone had noticed.

Below is video proof.

I personally like the change. He's on pace for less HR's, but he's batting for a higher average.

I noticed this during ST too. He also doesn't seem to hold his hands as high. I think he may have lost a little pop but he seems to have better bat control as he holds the bat slightly tighter.

Do you think he'll hit 30 HR's this year with his current stance? I'm expecting big things from Hanley the second half of the season. I think he goes 30/30. Well I hope he does at least.

yes i definitely noticed the stance difference a long time ago....im actually quite used to it now.

He's gone from a very open stance to a slightly open stance, fyi.

his hand are deff quicker to the ball with the new stance, i like it. hitting for a high average with good OBP and running into a couple HRs is fine with me

I think Hanley probably reached his peak in power last year, but he is going to be one of the BEST hitters in the NL for years to come. And I mean best...like Pujols-esqe.

You think Hanley reached his power peak at 24 years old?

Seriously doubt it. He will adjust again as time goes on. He's hitting 3rd and is using it as an opportunity to take what is given to him to get the ribbies. An important stat for the team. This stance (or "batting attitude") allows him to take the ball the other way alot more, instead of pulling it for long fly outs when he has 2 strikes against him. It also puts him on base so others behind him can get him home (53 runs scored). There's only one other player that is relatively close to scoring as many runs as him (52).

Well if this new stance is permanent, then he's going to lose power, correct? He hit 33 home runs last year. I'm not saying that he could never hit more than 33 home runs in a season if he tried, but with this new stance it looks like he controls the bat very well and his average is going to be extremely high. If something in his batting stance changes down the road, then he probably will hit 33+ home runs, but he's not on pace to beat 33 with this stance in 09. Just my opinion.

If he stays healthy, I honestly see him hitting up to 35 HR's this season. I maybe reaching a little bit, but I think it's feasible. If not for his slow may, he'd probably have 17-20 HR's at this point in the season. I also think he steals 30 bags. That is if he chooses to run.

No. That is not correct.

just because his numbers might show a loss in power from last year doesn't mean it has anything to do with his change in batting stance.

This.

He's on pace to hit 30 Homeruns this season so how is this exactly a peak in his power.

There's a few things to look into to.

1. How the new stance effects his swing and how he'd have to adjust.

So far he has adjusted well puting up a great average and good power. Plus he has been hitting more homeruns as of late.

2. That he is only 24 and has plenty of time before he actually reaches his peak.

He is expected to hit over .300 with 40+ Homeruns when he has reached his full potential and steal 20+ Bases.
