I don't know. Do we win the WS without Willis, Pierre, Encarnacion, Redman, Conine, and Urbina? All were acquired by Beinfest.

im not saying they are bad but the dombrowski list is pretty darn good , dombrowski use to get like 2 or 3 of that teams top 5 prospects for like 1 star, the moves we have been making lately im not sure they are in that realm

Beinfest by far imo. Would love to see what Beinfest could do if they gave him a top5 payroll, like Dombrowski got to win a WS.

Both great, why do we feel the need to compare them, it really is pointless because it just turns to fighting. lol

Ahh, the fondness of memory.

Dombrowski brought many great players to the fish via trade, so has Beinfest. Dombrowski had several bad trades. We want to remember Brad Penny, and Derek Lee and forget about Ramon Castro and Joe Fontenot.

I believe Dombrowski has had a top 5 payroll for the past couple years at least and can't get over the hump.

And Trader Jack.

And that Hall of Fame catcher...

I don't think anyone here was arguing that the "Dombrowski" 2003 Marlins would have won the World Series without any intervention by Beinfest. I think the argument is that many of the key pieces were brought in under Dombrowski to formulate the core of that team. It is fully obvious that the Marlins would not have even made the playoffs in 2003 if not for the moves by both GMs. However, I think there is a case to be made by saying that Dombrowski should be owed equal credit in 2003 at the minimum for bringing in names like Lowell, Castillo, Cabrera, Gonzalez, Lee, Penny, Beckett, etc. As a whole, Dombrowski's pieces were more valuable, but that doesn't not negate the essential roles played by Rodriguez, Pierre, Conine, Encarnacion, Redman, and Urbina.

Additionally, the GMs must be evaluated on more than just World Series related decisions. I would argue that Beinfest has had much greater success in rebuilding teams after firesales than Dombrowski had.

It's Beinfest. Dombrowski was in the same situation that Beinfest was in 1998 (selling off the team's players, essentially). Except that Beinfest actually got some good pieces out of it, whereas only a couple of guys were acquired during the Fire Sale of 1998. The rest came later. Many of the 'can't miss' prospects we got in return for guys like Kevin Brown ended up as busts.

What about Rafael Medina? He was the key piece in the Kevin Brown trade. Derrek Lee was just a throw-in.

I think the argument can be made that those moves Beinfest made to get them over the hump were more important.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I don't think there has ever been a WS winner in the FA era that didn't do some in-season tweaking to get "over the hump." Maybe not ever. But just maybe.

I have always been a fan of Dave's, but it can be argued that Admin has done more with less in his time here and Dave's there. Dave even had a near top payroll in '08 and finished last in that divisiion. And KC is in that division. Championships aside, with a payroll that is constantly that high compared to others and you don't at least make the playoffs then it is a failure on the team, GM, and the rest of the FO.

I have to disagree, because to be in that position to make the moves you need the nucleus and core of players and if it wasnt for dombroski ,beinfest would have never been in that position to get over the hump. which why the past few years they havent made the moves for a serious run. I wouldnt count nick johnson a move to get over the hump. and when we won the world series in 1997 that was all dombrowski. granted we had a very high payroll but as u all know that doesnt always amount to wins but for us it did. and the whole payroll thing for dombrowski is very distorted and misleading because u know its a fact that american players do not want to play in canada. and they have had to pay a little more for average players because u know if an american team offers the same amount of money that toronto offers , more likely then not they are going with the american team. its the same in basketball which is why the miami heat will probably get chris bosh next year.

It really is sad how we lost Michigan to Canada in the war

Though it did triple Canada's black population, so that's good.

Thank god we're in florida though and didn't have the war spread down here. Must have been horrible for our troops to fight Canada's bear calvary. It's no wonder we lost Michigan to them.

lmfao i see what u mean now =s why the F did i think he was in toronto. for like the past seven years i thought he was their. i have this image in my head of him at roger centre and i always thougt he was their GM lol. who the heck is the gm for the bluejays then ? but the tigers are pretty darn good themselves , although i'll never forgive the miggy trade =( the marlins have committed the cardinal sin twice. we got away with it once when we got hanley for beckett but i'll never ever forgive the miggy trade. he signed with us when he was like 16 i think. and theres just a few players in sports that u never get rid of no matter what the situation is and cabrera was one , now we have one in hanley and i hope he plays his whole career here.
